With a cold front today keep an eye out for iguanas, which are commonly spotted in the area. Interestingly, did you know that iguanas become immobilized when
temperatures drop? This fascinating behavior is a survival mechanism that helps them conserve energy during cold weather. When temperatures fall below
50°F (about 10°C), iguanas may become sluggish and inactive. In some cases, they can become so cold that they enter a state of temporary paralysis. If the temperature continues to drop or if they are exposed
to cold for extended periods, they may experience more severe effects, such as falling from trees or becoming disoriented.
When the weather warms up again, iguanas typically regain their mobility and will bask in the sun to raise their body temperature back to normal. Visitors to the Florida Keys may find these unique
behaviors of iguanas interesting, especially during cooler weather. It's a delightful reminder of the diverse
wildlife that inhabits this beautiful region.
