Last week's answer: It's an Ocotillo!

These plants grow bright flowers on the tips of their long stick-like branches in the spring. And it is said that they can live over 60 years!

Congrats to our winners: Patricia Foster, Norma Evangelista Schuler, and Doug Drushal! DM us with your address to get your Hatch sticker.

Today for , we tell the story of how this photo came to exist AND show you the Ford commercial that made it happen!

Due to some technical difficulties, we missed last week's ! Don't worry, we're back and for this week we're wondering:

What kind of plant is this?

Our last trivia question stumped a lot of you! It was a photo of a double half hitch! It's the most common knot used to tie boats to shore.

Congrats to our one successful knot identifier: Jango Whitebear! DM us with your address to get your Hatch sticker.

This , we're re-sharing an old Ted Hatch interview. In it, he talks about partnering with Ford for a TV commercial that sent a car down the Colorado River on a raft.

Why? Because we found the commercial!

It's a longer story than can be told in one short blog update, so stay tuned for the whole story in a future Flashback Friday.

In the meantime, check out Ted's interview and then visit the link to get a Ford employee's account of learning about the commercial while traveling with Hatch!

A continuation of a 1984 Ted Hatch interview, on the origins of the Hatch family in Utah and the history of motorized rafts in Grand Canyon.
