Ted Hatch spent a lifetime showing us how to have fun! His enthusiasm and passion for whitewater is legendary. He did so much to help the river community and now is honored in the John Wesley Powell Museum River Runner Hall of Fame.

Chasing the Seasons with Orion by JP Running
.
During the 2020 pandemic, the river was shut down and many of our guides did not know what their future would look like. JP Running wrote this poem about “not being able to see where home has been for more than half my life. I always thought about time. You can always witness time. You can actually feel the world changing through time, through the course of a summer. Missing out on that due to current circumstances is kind of a daunting reality to face.”

He was interviewed by KNAU which aired on NPR. This is a recording of him reading that poem.

Did you know the John Wesley Powell Museum in Green River Utah features the River Runners Hall of fame where Bus and now Don and Ted Hatch are all honored? This museum highlights the early river runners that shaped the Canyons history and even has many of their boats on display! You will recognize many of the names from stories your guides told you while on your river trip . Visiting this museum is a really cool way to come full circle and see how it all began.

Last weekend the Green River River Runners Hall of Fame Festival inducted Don and Ted Hatch! The weekend was full of raffles, silent auctions, screenings of old river films, a river float down the Green River, and a reception and ceremony honoring the new hall of fame members. Hatch family, old river guides and current guides came from far and wide to catch up and celebrate!
