These fish are native to the Colorado River and can mainly be found in the warm water tributaries of the Grand Canyon. There has been a great effort to revive this endangered species as post-dam conditions changed their habitat and introduced new predators.

Thanks to the hard work of state, regional, Tribal and federal agencies, as well as private partners, significant progress has been made conserving and recovering the humpback chub. The population in Grand Canyon is now estimated at more than 11,000 fish! One of Hatch’s own guides leads the Juvenile Humpback Chub Monitoring project!

We have eggs to order almost every morning on every trip...that means there are a lot of eggs we are taking down the river each trip. For a typical 2-boat, 7-day full-canyon motorized trip we pack 30-dozen eggs! On a 12-day oar trip, there can be up to 45 dozen eggs packed.
