Desert spiny lizard! (or Sceloporus magister if you're feeling Latin)

These lizards can be found throughout the Southwestern U.S. including in Grand Canyon.

Congrats to our winner, lizard master Geoff Carpenter! Honorable mention to Bob Clark (even though he hedged his bets in his answer!). DM us with your address to get your Hatch sticker.

It's almost the end of the week, and you know what that means! It's !

This spring is commonly referred to as the "inside out waterfall" because the flowing water contains minerals that eventually deposited around it, enclosing the water entirely! What is this deposit made of?

Last week's answer: Salt!

Water leaches through the upper layers of the canyon and often surfaces here in the Tapeats Sandstone. When it evaporates, salt is left behind. One section of this salt deposit is called the Hopi Salt Mines. It is off limits to visitation as it is a critical component of a Hopi ceremony.

Congrats to last week's winners: Peter Fitzmaurice, Rod Horn, and Danny Mangum! DM us with your address to get your Hatch sticker!
