These enthusiastic campers celebrated the Olympic Games throughout week 6 of Summer at Tower. They competed in Olympic-inspire games and created the backdrop to the games in the art studio, including Olympic rings and “torches” Go USA!

Summer at Tower campers are celebrating the Olympic Games all week—beginning with Monday’s torch run through campus! Several campers (shown here after the ceremony) were selected to represent their fellow campers and pass the torch. Olympic inspired games, art, Olympic rings, and tissue paper “torches” like this one have kept the athletes on everyone’s mind. Go USA!

This year, we’re celebrating 4 decades of fresh air and summer fun on our Marblehead campus—and beyond! And after 40 years, we are extra delighted to be considered “home” to so many 1st and now 2nd generation campers.

In 6th grade history class, you’ll join the discussion about ancient ruins on the island of Crete (reconstruction vs preservation); in 8th grade history, you’ll discuss the impact of satire, irony and propaganda in the Gilded Age, (commenting on society and issues of the day.)

MIDDLE SCHOOL ADMISSIONS EVENT FOR PARENTS: Attend a class to experience Tower's Middle School History Program! January 9, 2024; 10:30 & 11:30am

10:30am class: 6th Grade History with Webb Thompson: Restoration vs Conservation at the Archaeological Site of Knossos
In 1894, Sir Arthur Evans discovered the ruins of a lost city on the island of Crete. This was the palace of Knossos, the site of one of the most famous legends of antiquity, the Legend of the Minotaur. For 32 years, Sir Arthur Evans excavated and reconstructed portions of the palace. Archaeologists, museum docents, and locals all hold points of view on Sir Arthur Evans’ excavation and reconstruction work. Should portions of archeological sites such as Knossos have been reconstructed so that visitors could see what life was like thousands of years ago, or should these sites have been preserved as they were found? Join the sixth grade as we dig deep and debate this question.

11:30am class: 8th Grade History with Sig Orne: Propaganda, Satire, and Irony Embedded in Factual History
Propaganda, satire, and irony are hallmarks of political cartoons. Have you ever looked at a political cartoon and wondered how the artist created a multi-layered pictorial comment on society? Join 8th-grade historians and learn how to analyze and dissect Gilded Age political cartoons as students prepare to create their own political cartoons. The 8th grade will be exploring the Gilded Age as a time of covering up the “dirt of society with a layer of gold” to create a path to The American Dream.

New at Tower: Beginners Program for Three-Year-Old Students
We are excited to announce that as of the 2024–2025 school year, Tower School will offer a new Pre-Kindergarten program for younger students, called Beginners. The Beginners’ curriculum will be modeled after our immensely popular, multi-disciplinary Pre-K program, with age-appropriate adjustments for 3-year-old children.

A few details about Beginners:
• students must be 2 years and 9 months old (33 months) or older as of September 1, 2024
• Beginners is a five-day program with options for full- and half-day enrollment
• we offer a small class size of 12 Beginners students
• we are currently accepting applications for enrollment in the fall

Emerging tech tools such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality (AR) have captured the world’s imagination. Join us for an engaging discussion about their potential in classroom settings. Attendees will also be invited to:

• Play with robots
• Use AI to redesign the Tower logo
• Encounter dinosaurs in augmented reality
• Find the ultimate parent math homework helper
• Design, build, and explore a digital world

As intruiging technologies emerge and evolve, Tower will evaluate them with thoughtful curiosity. The understanding of the educational benefits of AI, VR, and AR are still developing, but Tower strives to use them in the most effective and safest way possible.
