As of Nov. 18, SR 20 North Cascades Highway is closed for the season between Ross Dam trailhead (milepost 134) on the west side and Silver Star gate on the east side (milepost 171) due to adverse conditions and avalanche risk.
Here we go! Time for snow and winter weather. If it's showing at 500-1000 feet, you can bet Washington Pass is pretty dicey. Be careful out there!

If you still want to hike Cascade Pass, it'll be an extra 3 miles in the snow to the trail head. With heavy precipitation expected at lower elevations, we can expect all the trails to have some amount of snow by the end of the weekend. Please be prepared as road and trail conditions can worsen quickly.

The bridge known as No Name is going to be replaced, at long last. This is the first small bridge after crossing the main steel bridge over the Cascade. According to the email from the park office, equipment is being staged this past week (GIANT beasts near the back gate in division 3).
Access over the bridge will be closed starting October 7th. The email indicated the work would take "approximately" a week. Hedging bets is a good idea in any construction endeavor!
You can access the back gate from South Cascade River Road. After you cross the Marblemount bridge, turn right onto Rockport Cascade, then left onto South Cascade. It's a rough road, but not as rough as it used to be. Stay left until you reach the yellow iron gate. The square gold member key will unlock this gate. This gate is locked at all times.
