Another stellar day in the 10k! Check out those conchs! Some really unique variations found today! Waves are still hitting the beach and everyday has been producing some different material. Next week’s full moon low tides should be pretty special!

We are seeing so many live shells on the beach right now! I know you want the alphabet cones, rose murex, and true tulips, but please put them back in the water preferably in a low impact zone. These mollusk deserve to live and produce shells for us to find in the future! Collect empty shells!

Well we spent all day going after the shells! Tropical Storm Debby laid the good stuff down! Horse conchs, junonias, scotch bonnets, more alphabet cones than I’ve seen in a long time, awesome miniatures, rose murex, babies ears, true tulips, albinos, and more! Pictures didn’t do it justice! If you have ever wanted to beach comb the Ten Thousand Islands post storm now is your time! The islands are stacked up like cord wood, Keewaydin will be great also!

Check out this stunner! Or I should say stunners! I was talking about the rose murex, which one do you like more? The rose or flatty?! Plenty of good stuff being found by those willing to hunt the productive zones! Let me be the one to guide you there!

We have been having some fun days in the islands lately! Once the rain is over these awesome afternoons appear with low tides, cooler temperatures, cloudy sky’s, and thunder rumbling in the background! Shells have been there if you know where to look, same with the dolphin and manatee!

In my opinion the west coast of Florida is where it’s at! Calm waters, great sunsets, and some of the best beaches in the world! Here is a little sample pack of what this time of year has to offer. Summer is by far the best time to experience Florida and that goes for so many different areas in this great state!

It’s been a fun first week back in the 10k! In my opinion morning tours have been where it’s at! Beautiful sunrises, great weather, beach combing, dolphins, and making memories! The low tides have been producing in the afternoons and sunsets haven’t disappointed also!

The True Tulip shell brings a burst of color to the shore. 🎨🏝️Found throughout the coast of the Ten Thousand Islands and Florida Keys, this vibrant shell is one of our favorites. These beauties are predatory snails and can reach up to 6 inches in length! Nature’s palette never fails to amaze!

Well yesterday was another successful tour! So many great days on the water lately! Sorry I’m so backed up on pics. We probably scored almost 50 unoccupied queens yesterday! Along with many other great finds!

Yesterday was ridiculous! Mother Nature let us back into the Atlantic! We scored over 20 unoccupied queens, too many biscuits (said in southern accent) to count, true tulips, hawks wings, milk conchs, and a stunning horse conch! Among other great finds!

Pics are coming in of cleaned shells from previous guest! Will make it a separate post! To everyone that has come down to experience the keys with us, we’re thankful you did! One more week of tours here in the Florida Keys then we will be back in the 10k area!

Mother Nature has given us rain, wind, hail, and more wind here in the keys! But we are still out here finding the good stuff! Something amazing happens when you put your face in the water! You find a whole world that exists different from how you do!

Nature has a way of putting you in the moment. It’s a hard place to find in our everyday life with how connected we stay all the time. Here I am connected, posting about disconnecting but you need to be connected to see it! I guess what I’m trying to say is let’s go connect with nature and I’d like to be the one to help you do that!

Ever stumbled upon a massive, beautiful shell on your beach adventures and felt that rush of excitement? If so, chances are, you might have found a Lightning Whelk! ⚡️

A common yet extraordinary inhabitant of the Gulf and Atlantic coasts. Their shells are often adorned with lightning-like streaks. In the world of Lightning Whelks, the big ones are always females! These female whelks can grow significantly larger than their male counterparts, sometimes reaching up to 16 inches in length.

These shells have withstood the test of time and tides, making them treasured keepsakes. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or a curious newbie, spotting a giant Lightning Whelk is always a thrill.

Was able to pop out in between storms today! Wind is blowing gale force down here in the keys! Check out these shells we got cleaned up today! Forgot to get in Cristina’s stunner hawks wing!

Gulf side has been treating us good the past couple days! Water is nice and clear over there! I’ve been thinking about opening up some of my days off for the last 2 weeks. Contact me if you are interested in a private tour!

So many great shells when you find that right checkered bottom! Again everyone, 90% of what we see down here is occupied by either the mollusk that made these beautiful shells of a hermit crab looking for a sweet home! Please take only unoccupied shells as best you can!

We started providing our guest with a dental mirror tool so we can all make sure we are checking for occupied shells. Thank you to everyone who has participated with us!

We found heaven yesterday! If you took Kice Island in the 10K area and times it by the Turks & Caicos you would get this little slice of paradise! Crystal clear water, lush mangrove islands, with seashells and abundant wildlife! Check out those shells!

We are getting off the beaten path looking for those special areas and making unforgettable memories with our guest! The ability to explore here in the Florida Keys has reignited a passion for experiencing new areas! Mother Nature does not disappoint here!

Snorkeling for seashells in the Florida Keys adds an exciting element to this hobby we love so much! To ensure we preserve this wonderful habitat please only collect empty shells. We need to keep the gene pool strong and diverse here! When we take live mollusk from their home it removes them from the gene pool. Let’s not do what we did to fishing in Florida by taking unnecessary. Observe mollusk in their natural habitats and leave them to create future generations for our future explorers!

Another great day on the water in the Florida Keys! We found so much good stuff yesterday! Unoccupied queens, milk conchs, hawks wings, caribbean vase, cones, biscuits, etc! More pics to come once these beauties get cleaned up!

All live mollusk found were safely retuned to the sea floor. Cushion sea star was also immediately put back in the water after the picture. Take only unoccupied shells, Mother Nature appreciates it!

Cones, conchs, bonnets, spots and dots! We have such an amazing variety of seashells washing on to our beaches. Southwest Florida is one of the best places and in my opinion “the best” place in North America for shelling.

Our good low tides are switching to the afternoons and will stay that way through the summer. If you want to beat the heat let’s go early! If you want that super low tide let’s go late afternoon! Either way let’s go see what the beach has for you!

Red Mangroves are often perched on the water’s edge looking like they are about to make a great escape. Their stilt like branches appear to be walking the tree right out of the water. However, this tree is happy right where it is. Adapted to its salty, wet environment they thrives in brackish water and soft muddy soil. Prop roots grow outward from the main trunk in all directions to help stabilize it in the shifting, soggy soil. For extra support the red mangrove also grows its roots from above. Areal roots that grow on the branches of these trees reach downward to the water for added support to remain secure in hurricanes. These areal roots also absorb and store gasses and nutrients inside of them because their roots are often submerged in water.

Red mangrove trees also have special adaptations to help them reproduce in their soggy environment. They have small yellowish flowers with four petals and are pollinated by wind. Once they have been pollinated a seed called a propagule starts to grow in place of the flower. These trees will germinate the seed while still attached to the tree instead of in the soil! Once the torpedo shaped propagule grows to about six inches it will fall from the tree into the water, where it will be carried by the tides to another location. These propagules have the ability to float; once they become heavy from being waterlogged the end of the seed which will sprout roots starts to sink so that it can reach the soil. Once the seed gets stuck in the soil it will begin rooting in that location.

These trees are so important for our area! Many mollusk and fish call the roots of these trees their first home. Wading birds such as the great blue heron and great egret also enjoy the safety the roots provide by using the red mangroves as a feeding, nesting and breeding ground.🌱

Early birds got the “J” today and many other great finds! I had a great family of shellers willing to do the early departure and it payed off. Making memories with seashells!

Check out this beauty of a true tulip! A couple of late season storms has the beach offering some great finds for guest right now! Some good tides this weekend and next week should give us some access to a few unseen areas.
