Balancing creating memories with my family and my shelling guest. Shelling during the week and then spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday with my family from going the Florida Everblades Kelly cup game to watching my granddaughter’s dance recital and today spending time on the boat my older son and his family soaking in the salty lifestyle 🏝️👣🌊🐚🥰💕🌞😎🤙✌️

From time to time I have posted about my beloved owls in my yard and feel that this message needs to be shared.
PLEASE, don’t use rat poison as it NOT only kills the rats but also the wildlife 🦉🥲😩💔
I had made a posting about Hootdini losing his mate to rat poison. From my recent posting, you have noticed that Hootdini had found a new mate and they had four baby chicks that are now flying, but still have not fledged from the burrow.
last night I received the text around 9:15 pm from my neighbor stating that while walking his dog, he saw two of my owl chicks cornering a rat.
I immediately ran out the door with nothing but a flashlight. After 10 minutes of searching, I found the rat to be walking very slowly and stumbling with no apparent injuries other than the effects of rat poisoning which I have witnessed to many times before causing a slow death. I knew I had to put it out of his misery, away from my owls and secure the rat so it could be tested.
The rat was placed in the garage freezer in a double bag so it can be picked up an examine for a rat poisoning..
i’m currently dealing with my female who appears to be injured for the last four days. She’s been standing only on one leg as her other foot ( talons ) seems to be injured.
she also has had one eye partially closed for several days, but now it appears to be wide open, which is a good sign. i’m not sure how the injury occurred, but I’m extremely concern for them all.
If anybody is interested in knowing how to find an alternative method to help control these rodents, please private message me or contact your local wildlife Conservancy or Audubon Society for details.

Shelltastic and stunning find of this Crown conch commonly referred to a kings crown. Look a the color and pointed knobbed whoris. This condition indicates that this mollusk was recently consumed by and larger mollusk.

Always happy to Volunteer my time and services when asked by the Audubon Western Everglades ( AWE ).
Yesterday morning I met up with two AWE representatives, Andy Wells-Bean ( executive Director ) , Brittany Piersma ( field biologist ) along with NBC news team member to take them to a local sandbar where some species of shorebirds are using this site as a nesting ground. Because of its elevation, it provides better protection from higher than normal tidal surges.
The goal was to bring awareness to the public about understanding the importance of why this site should be listed as a critical wildlife area ( CWA ) durning the shorebirds nesting season. avoidance from landing a vessel on site would allow the shorebirds a better chance of there eggs to hatch, and for the birds to rest peacefully. They already have enough threat from predators such as crows who feed on the eggs and small chicks, to the coyotes, which are now being seen roaming the 10,000 islands near Marco Islands.
With the continuous loss of habitat for the shorebirds to nest freely without disturbance is why it is crucial that site be protected.
This site, is a shifting sandbar and at one time was listed as a critical wildlife area but it has shifted outside of its original boundaries is the reason AWE would like to see the current location listed again as a CWA protected location.

Mystery solved 🫣🤔. Navigating this morning at 5:30 AM to the Marina I noticed what appeared to be a boat stern light about a mile ahead of me. It’s extremely rare that I ever see a boat that early in the morning.
As I approached the light, it appeared to be close to the mangroves accordingly to my GPS plotter. I slow down and proceeded with caution activated my search light to get a better look at it. My first concern was it was a boat that ran into the Mangrove, however, as I got closer, I noticed that it was not in the Mangrove, but about 40 feet away. It’s still appear to be a stern light and I thought perhaps it might be a recently sunken vessel with its stern light on. ( Saltwater will kill a battery very quickly )
Again there No way to judge depth perception in the dark. As I idled up to the light I thought ok it’s a partial submerged hand light 🤷🏻♂️.
not until I pulled right up to it and scooped it up, but I realized that it was a LED puck light.
As I was trying to shut it off I accidentally activated the light color variations button which changed the white to red and then green 🤪. Glad that it was just a light that fell off a boat not the stern light of a boat.
Several years back I ran across a sunken vessel that had occurred hours earlier with no one around. Notified the authorities and gave them the GPS coordinates location.
You never know what you might run across while navigating in the dark!

Sooner or later we all have to pay the dues from the 🌞 exposure. Glad I notice a change in my skin appearance between my dermatologist appointment and called in for an appointment. Didn’t expect that much skin removed though🤪.
Planning to have the stitches removed first week in June.
The Only negative is trying to place a bandage by yourself and finding a bandage to fit with ease. Thanks to great neighbors willing to offer assistance 🤙😎.

Congrats to Gail for finding this flat scallop which was the one shell that you hadn’t found yet during our tour. This was the fourth time in three days where I’ve had a guest trying to find a specific shell and within 30 minutes they walk back up to me with the shell. It’s all about putting a positive energy out there and manifesting it. Happens to me all the time with my guest and twice in yesterday’s tour. A purple lip Florida fighting conch was the second shell.

This Florida fighting conch is not as commonly found with these features. Although one of the most prolific mollusk in our region of the state. They have a thick shell with “worn blunt knobbed whorls”, however this one was different by having “taller, pointed knobbed whorls”. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder 🏝️👣🌊🐚🥰💕🌞😎✌️

Many guest always ask, “what is this” answer- a communal apple murex egg mass.
At times you can find them attached to a penshell as seen in the first pic. They can be found washed ashore after a storm surf caused by extremely strong winds combined with strong tides. 🏝️👣🌊🐚🌞😎✌️

I would like to thank Audubon Western Everglades, Naples Conservancy, and a two volunteers all who were very instrumental in making the call to go ahead and rescue it, rehabbing and releasing this beautiful osprey in the exact location where it was found. I was really looking forward in releasing this osprey but unfortunately, I was out of state visiting family members when I received a call that the osprey was ready to be released. Thanks the two great volunteers who followed my location information and found the exact nest where I found this osprey. I was lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time this morning. I found this osprey chick that was blown off its nest and could not fly yet. it appeared to be maybe a week early from fletching from the nest. A decision was made by a Audubon Western Everglades biologist for me to capture it and a volunteer would meet me at the marina. I’d like to thank my Shelling Guest who were willing to participate in this rescue. The Osprey was taken to the Naples Conservancy where it will be kept there until it can fly on its own and then release an exact location where it was found in 10,000 Islands. #rescuewildlife #osprey #doingtherightthing #marco #1
