Marco Island: How did this vote on Home Regulation law happen ?
--> Ed Issler: 'I did not coordinate with the previous speaker' [Christine Dowell], and then proceeds to read HER letter.

--> Then offers himself up to override city council if they 'cant be convinced' because in his view 'anybody can do anything' to declare home rentals as illegal.

--> They later copy a Ft Lauderdale ordinance as the most restrictive ordinance out there as example of government overreach with absurd policies that are impossible to enforce, but do actually change it to make it even worse.

--> Forces a referendum to citizen vote
--> 14 months later says 'let the lawsuits come'

--> This is Ed Issler. He is not a lawyer.
--> His separate PAC “Take Back Marco” thinks they found a loophole to declare ‘anybody can stop anything’ to declare home rentals illegal.

--> The ordinance Ed wrote is in direct conflict with Florida state law. The Ed Home Regulation law is problematic in more than 19 areas as ‘a legal minefield’ and violates the constitution.

--> Ed says in this video "Anybody can stop anything"

--> Ed says in a city council meeting 14 months later “Let the lawsuits come”

….What the heck is happening on Marco Island ?
--> This lady moved to town at the end of 2019.
--> She started her own PAC 1 year later.

--> For 2 years, she and a handful of others have riled up an anti Vacation Rental caucus using the legitimate concerns of some outlier instances of occupancy & noise.

--> This same small group keeps lists of neighbors who rent to turn them in to tax authorities. They drive around neighborhoods blasting social media with any photo example they can find of parking or trash. The rhetoric is often hyperbole and they spread any news story they can find that is anti home rental.

--> In pursuit of a full rental ban against 1/3 of their neighbors, they copied one of the worst bloated over correction STR ordinances out there (Ft Lauderdale) to over regulate the practice out of existence and are trying to sell it as just a registration.

--> They filed a petition to referendum process for the law they wrote against 1/3 of their neighbors and it is now up to Citizen vote ONLY.

--> She’s now running for city council. She speaks for the Mackle brothers.

--> She says in this video "We are not Ft Lauderdale"

Let us work together to for REAL solutions. NOISE & OCCUPANCY: Many Vacation Rental Owners already have used for years and the others are open to simple commercial solutions such as the NoiseAware product. The offering was recently enhanced with new features for A) The ability to detect occupancy & notify owner & B) The ability to direct message rental guests without needing action / intervention by the property manager or owner.

Benefits for Marco Island full adoption would include:
1) A warning directly from the owner (with Security Deposit) to a guest solves 95% of all issues. (Beyond just noise & occupancy)

2) Establishes communication & accountability directly to those responsible (= Guest & Owner / Property Manager)

3) Immediate SLA that guests get warnings at first sign of exceeded thresholds instead of neighbors 'putting up with it'.

4) Takes out the EMOTION out of the debate and graphs over time with data can be used to prove either compliance, innocence, or infraction.

5) Saves Marco Island Police Department from having to be dispatched for noise warnings and only be used for more pressing matters.

The offering is $300 / year and includes an inside sensor as well as one on the lanai that runs on a battery for more than 6 months. Fast, affordable, & easy to deploy and manage. No new resources or costs incurred by the city. (In fact lightens the burden to the city and puts it where it belongs with the property owner or rental management) ~98% of rental guests are no problem at all on any given night. This simple and fast solution can all but eliminate the rest of the outlier disturbances.

Marco Island City council could get a NoiseAware product and calibrate it to define requirements. VR Owners are happy to mandate responsibility & respect for our guests and invest in solutions for the betterment of the community.
