Attention all beach lovers and wildlife enthusiasts!

May 1st, marks the official start of the sea turtle nesting season in Florida

As we welcome these incredible creatures back to our shores, we all must do our part to ensure their safety and success. Here are a few simple ways you can help protect our nesting sea turtles:

~ Keep the beach dark! Turn off or shield any bright lights visible from the shore, as they can disorient nesting mothers and hatchlings.
~ Keep the beach clean! Remove any obstacles, such as beach furniture or trash, that may impede a turtle's path to and from the water.
~ Observe from a distance! If you're lucky enough to spot a nesting turtle or hatchlings, maintain a respectful distance and avoid disturbing them.
~ Fill in holes and flatten sandcastles! These can trap or obstruct turtles on their way to or from the ocean.

Let's work together to create a safe and welcoming environment for these amazing animals during their nesting season. By being mindful and responsible beachgoers, we can help ensure the next generation of sea turtles has a fighting chance
