We amplify efficiency and sustainability by adding functionality and creative solutions to our projects. From a preliminary sketch to the final product, HansonLA’s priority is to respect the client’s resources and agenda while serving the community. Douglas Hanson, AIA, has over three decades of experience collaborating with some of the world’s leading architects to produce major projects in Afric

a, Asia, Europe, and North America. The initial inspiration for all of Hanson’s designs comes through in the form of a sketch. These preliminary sketches act as a map that guide the team through the design process to completion. The HansonLA team is made up of a growing number of young architects, anchored with several experienced designers and senior level staff. Our increasingly diverse team brings unique interests and backgrounds to the table, which often serve as inspiration to activate, enhance, and carry out the HansonLA vision. HansonLA’s strong principles come together to create comprehensive solutions for our clients, each showcasing conscious and meticulous design. This dedication to our vision has positioned HansonLA as a leading design firm located in Downtown Los Angeles. We welcome the opportunity and accept any challenge in renovating existing urban fabric anywhere in the world in order to define it for the future.

The design challenge for the 1,600 sf addition to this unique single-family house built in the round was to double the size of the living space, yet make sure its mid-century simplicity and elegance remained recognizable.

We removed the rooms to create a single large room with a new expanded kitchen built in the round and located at the center of the house. A new TV Room and the support spaces are designed as pavilions and set back from the perimeter to accommodate the custom glass doors that fully open the interior to the outdoors.

During AIA’s Lobby Day, Douglas Hanson, Will Wright, and Kevin Holland met with Ella Khorov from the office of Rep. Tony Cardenas and Gabrielle Howard from the office of Rep. HansonLA’s Residential Lofts at Mid-City project, which received unanimous support from the Pico Neighborhood Council, will subdivide a 5,572 SF lot into 4 single family homes.

Located at 5777 West Pico Boulevard, the project replaces a single-story office building and parking lot. It is designed in scale and massing to bridge the existing single-family residences to the north with the more active commercial corridor on Pico Boulevard. Ground floor gardens and planted entry courts enhance the walkable streets and provide a semi-private entry sequence to the homeowner.

HansonLA’s annual “Walk to the Beach” is tomorrow! All HansonLA new hires and class of interns have done this journey from Downtown Los Angeles to Santa Monica.

“It is imperative for architects to understand their city: relationship of buildings, neighborhoods, scale, history, and energy. The only way to truly experience Los Angeles, the city of cars, is to walk through it.”

Congratulations to HansonLA and Gisela Salazar, designer of The Louis Handle and Winner of the 2022 AZ Awards in Best in Concepts: Ideas and Prototypes! Renderings by HansonLA’s Priscila Villalpando!

The Louis Handle pays brilliant homage to Louis Braille by introducing accessibility for persons who are blind or have limited vision into contemporary spaces of all kinds.

“Most critics would attest that they know good design when they see it, but the sense of touch is often equally critical to our perception of space. A paragon of accessible design, the Louis Handle is proof that the most intentional interior products offer an entirely different sensory phenomenon, where architecture can be fully experienced by all.”

Thank you to the , the Jury, and to everyone who voted!
