Today I left the Cyprus( and UK) side of the Island and crossed the border into Turkey to catch my flight to Istanbul.

Cyprus,is an island country in the eastern Mediterranean Sea. Although it is geographically located in West Asia, its cultural identity and geopolitical make-up are overwhelmingly Southeast European. It is the third largest and third most populous island in the Mediterranean.
Cyprus hosts the British-controlled military bases Akrotiri and Dhekelia, in the northeast portion of the island is governed by the self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, which is separated from the Republic of Cyprus by the United Nations Buffer Zone.

So crazy on one Island.

A brief stroll along the beach to observe the kite borders. The cove was ideal for kite boarding "cover". They were amazing to watch. Unfortunately, my husband and son were not with me, as they are avid kite boarders.

Our next stop is the Sanctuary and Temple of Apollon Hylates. As stated in Greek mythology, Hylates held the position of god of Woodland and protector of Kourin. The site is believed to have been used for worship from the eighth century BC.

The Kourin archaeological site is distinguished by its remarkably intact Greco-Roman Theater, built in the 2nd century BC. The site encompasses the House of Eustollos, featuring extensively preserved excavated mosaic floors. It was possible to observe ongoing excavations during our visit. The site's strategic location affords spectacular views of the sea.

Kolossi Castle is associated with the Knights Templar and the Knights of the Order of St. John. It was fascinating to explore this impressive three-story castle.

Larnaka's picturesque beachfront and the iconic Finikoudes Promenade, featuring palm tree landscaping, provide a unique backdrop for a meal break and observing the local community. I had the opportunity to meet a gifted copper smith who handcrafted a custom bracelet for me. This specially designed piece will serve as a lasting souvenir of my time in Cyprus.

Wait, am I in Cyprus or Turkey???

After passing by the historic Venetian walls and Famagusta Gate, we arrived in the Old City of Nicosia. Taking a leisurely stroll on Cyprus’s iconic Ledra street, there's a border patrol for access into the Turkey side of Cyprus. So why not indulge in a delightful lunch in Turkey before heading back through the UN Buffer Zone to the Cyprus side.

Today we visited a traditional workshop specializing in intricate lace and filigree jewelry. The wine glasses adorned with silver work were truly stunning.
