We're often asked when is the best time to come down to the bayou for a swamp tour. Well, all the time, sha! Alligators prefer warmer, humid weather, so spring, summer, and fall are the best times to see plenty of gators in our area as well as Great Blue Herons and White Egrets. Winter brings out the fur-bearing (fuzzy) animals, like Nutria, deer, mink, otters and the migratory birds and alligators are still present as long as it is not below freezing. Each season also brings beautiful foliage throughout the area.

Fun fact: Alligators can replace their teeth up to 50 times throughout their lives! They have about 80 teeth at a time, and when one falls out, a new one grows in its placeβ€”making them toothy predators for life. 🐊🦷

Barred owls and great horned owls are masters of the swamp! These nocturnal hunters feast on small mammals, birds, and even snakes. The barred owl's eerie 'Who cooks for you?' call echoes through the night, while their specialized feathers ensure a silent flight.

Alligators have dark, rough skin that helps them blend into swampy environments. Their eyes, nostrils, and ears are positioned on the top of their heads, allowing them to see, breathe, and hear while almost completely submerged in water.
