Hungary. Budapest. The New York Cafe is considered one of the most beautiful cafes in the world. There is a cafe in the building of the New York Palace, which was built by order of the New York Insurance Company in 1894. A cafe was opened on the ground floor of the building, which soon became the center of Budapest's intellectual life. Writers, journalists, theater and film actors gathered here. The building was built in the spirit of the Italian Renaissance, richly decorated with marble, gilding, velvet and silk. The ceiling is decorated with frescoes by Gustav Mannheimer and Ferencz Eisenhut of the mid-nineteenth century and luxurious Venetian chandeliers.

Merry Christmas from Passports and Footprints!
There are so many of the Christmas traditions that we celebrate each year and you may not even know why. Gingerbread houses, Christmas trees, Saint Nicolas, and even how the green wreaths and an advent calendar are tied together.

Today, its time for some sweet stuff. Gingerbread may be one of the oldest holiday traditions and dates back to the year 992 when an Armenian monk brought the treat to France. Near the town of Pithiviers, just south of the Ile de France, he would spend the rest of his life teaching other monks how to make the early version of gingerbread.

In the 13th century, the German Franconia monks created a version called Lebkuchen. It can be soft, almost cake-like, and harder cookies, which my grandmother always made. Later in the 17th century, they made a law that only certified bakers could make spicy cookies, with a small clause that let anyone make them for Christmas.

The gingerbread house originated in Germany and was first seen in the 1800s. It was inspired by the age-old tale of Hansel and Gretel. The Grimm’s fairy tale of children in an edible house inspired a baker to create one out of Lebkuchen.

Now a Gingerbread Notre Dame or even Louvre would be something to see. Sadly I haven't seen that many in Paris.

I’d love to know just how many times the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles has appeared in movies and photos.

It’s iconic, and I wondered if I might be a little underwhelmed by it in real life.
Happily, I can say I wasn’t because it really was breathtaking. It felt completely surreal standing there, and I couldn’t help but think about all those people in history who had stood in this very room.

Designed by Jules Hardouin-Mansart and completed in 1684, it contains 17 mirror-clad arches and 17 windows overlooking the gardens.

Each arch contains 21 mirrors, creating a stunning effect of depth and light.

The hall served multiple purposes. It was a passageway, a waiting and meeting area, and a venue for lavish ceremonies. The Treaty of Versailles, which ended World War I, was signed here in 1919.

The 𝗧𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗮𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁, also called "La Magie de Noël" (The Magic of Christmas), is one of Paris’s most festive events. It happens every year in the Tuileries Garden, right next to the Louvre Museum. This year, it will run from November 16, 2024, to January 1, 2025.
There are over 100 wooden stalls selling Christmas decorations, handmade gifts, and yummy treats like crêpes, roasted chestnuts, and hot chocolate. You can also enjoy fun rides, a Ferris wheel, and an ice-skating rink.
Located in the heart of Paris, this market is a favorite for locals and visitors alike. It's a magical place to get into the holiday spirit!

Lets showcase the interior of Patisserie Stohrer, the oldest pastry shop in Paris, so here it is. It was established in 1730 by Nicolas Stohrer, the pastry chef for Louis XV. You'll find it on the bustling Rue Montorgueil in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris. Nicolas Stohrer, originally from Poland, moved to France with the French queen Marie Leszczyńska, the daughter of Stanisław I, the exiled King of Poland.

Stohrer is famed for inventing the baba au rhum, a dessert that involves soaking a dry cake in rum. This creation was reportedly inspired when Stohrer soaked a dry kouglof cake in liquor to enhance its flavor, an idea that originated from his desire to improve the taste of a traditional Polish pastry for King Stanisław.

The pastry shop's interior was designed by a student of the famous Paul Baudry, who also worked on the Paris Opéra Garnier. In 2017, Stohrer was acquired by the Dolfi family, who also own the oldest chocolate factory in Paris.
