Our Story
We both love adventure. This is what Bryce and I told ourselves when we abruptly decided to move away from our friends and our beloved Southern California beaches to the small town of McMinnville, Oregon. We moved to face the project of remodeling a large historic home downtown, turning it into a thriving rental property in the middle of a beautiful (and exploding!) wine region.
The Big House // “The Big House” as we affectionately call it, is a seven bedroom home that is split into two parts, the main house and our apartment. Over the years it has been a funeral home, a hostel, a halfway house, a single family home and more. Down the road our vision is to turn the whole house into a bed and breakfast, but we have much to do before that comes to fruition. Oh, if these walls could talk, I very often wonder what stories they would tell. 110 years of history--Wow. I know one thing for sure; they just don’t build houses like this anymore. Most recently we have been renting out the main portion of the house on a month-to-month basis to people from all over the world. Wine seems to be the unifying element that brought most of them to Oregon, but whether it was wine, love, or a heart full of adventure, we are grateful for the community this house has blessed us with so shortly after moving across the country.
The Carriage House // The building that was historically the property's Carriage House, now turned studio apartment, has been the subject of most of our efforts the last few months. We christened August Moon Carriage House thus because of the recent total lunar eclipse that brought about the innitial opening of our nightly vacation rental studio. We are constantly working in-between guests, tweaking and improving things. All five-star-reviews so far (thanks airbnb!) and we are only improving daily. I will post updates.
Why McMinnville // “McMinnville”-Even the name is weird. The more we learn about this quirky little town though, the more we like living here. McMinnville is a primarily touristy town with an adorable downtown area and an exploding summer population. The food and wine scene here is incredible. Bryce and I are borderline obsessed with weekly farmer’s markets. McMinnville is the town in the middle of the Willamette Valley which is currently the Nation’s #1 A.V.A outside of California.
