Flat Tops Scenic Byway

Flat Tops Scenic Byway Learn more about the Flat Tops Scenic Byway. The Flat Tops Trail Scenic Byway showcases the U.S. Forest Service's long history of multiple-use land management.

It endures today as a working byway, with timber-producing woodlands, grazing allotments, and ranches along the way. Lying at the heart of Colorado's "rugged individualism," visitors to this byway can embark on outdoor adventures while exploring the Blanco District of the White River National Forest. Approximately 40 miles of the 82 mile drive are unpaved. Most of the byway is inaccessible during

winter months. Visitors should allow at least 2 1/2 hours driving time to travel the byway. Gas and other provisions are provided only in the towns of Meeker and Yampa, so plan ahead. The White River National Forest is the country's top recreation forest, offering visitors the chance to take part in plenty of outdoor activities. Hikers & horseback riders enjoy the Flat Tops Wilderness during summer months while snowmobile riders and cross-country skiers seeking winter sport find delight and perfect powder along the Byway.
