She has spent her professional life mentoring other women and developing tools and trainings to help level the playing field. Her journey has brought her to High Heels Speaking. Over 10 years ago while serving in a middle management position Karen was about to present a strategic plan to several male managers. Her boss introduced her and during the introduction he did not call her by name but instead said, “High Heels Speaking.” At the moment Karen took this as a negative but in time she came to recognize that her boss remark maybe have not been an insult but just ignorance. She eventually came to recognize the “power of highheels. “

Karen’s workshops and keynotes are geared toward the unique challenges of women in the workplace. She believes, the playing field may not be level as yet but with the right tools women can achieve at the same level as men.

Burn out is not a requirement to be successful…

Burn out is not a requirement to be successful…

Burnout isn’t a badge of honor; it’s a warning sign. If you’re feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, or just plain done, it’s time to stop pushing and start prioritizing your well-being. You owe it to yourself to not just survive, but to thrive. Here’s how:

1. Admit You’re Burnt Out – Stop pretending you’re “just tired.” You’re running on empty, and it’s time to face it.

2. Prioritize Sleep – You can’t live on caffeine. Get real rest—your brain needs it.

3. Set Boundaries – Saying “yes” to everything isn’t heroic; it’s draining. Learn to say “no” without guilt.

4. Find What You Enjoy (or Tolerate) – Start small. Focus on the things that don’t make you miserable.

5. Ask for Help – You don’t have to be a one-person show. Delegation isn’t weakness.

6. Move Your Body – Exercise clears your mind. It’s hard to feel stuck when you’re in motion.

7. Eat Better – Fuel your body with real food. Your brain will thank you.

8. Let It Out – Release the pressure. It’s okay to lose it (in private), then move forward.

9. Get Professional Help If Needed – If nothing’s working, talk to a pro. No shame in that.

10. You’re Human, Not a Machine – You can’t do everything, and that’s fine. Take a break and come back stronger.

Final Thought: You’re not just here to survive—you’re here to thrive. Take care of yourself first, and watch how everything else follows.

Communication is the key.

Leaders,
There's a reason why the word "confrontation" seems soooo negative: Because we, ourselves, have worked up a narrative that the communication needed in a situation will be difficult or combatative; therefore it becomes a "confrontation".
In reality, we have "ASSUMED" that narrative. Just go communicate with people. Communicate with your Team. Communicate the needs of the business.
Stop assuming what MIGHT happen and then the uncomfortable discussion just becomes communication between people.

Patience is not inaction!

A husband’s phone rang in church by accident during prayers the priest scolded him, the worshipers admonished him after prayer for interrupting the silence. His wife kept on lecturing him until they reached home, you could see the shame, embarrassment and humiliation on his face. He never step foot in the church ever again.

That evening he went to a bar. He was still nervous and trembling. He spilled his drink on the table by accident the waiter apologized, and gave him a napkin to clean himself up, the janitor also mop the floor, the female manager offered him a complimentary drink, she also gave him a huge hug while saying, “don’t worry man who doesn’t make a mistake.” He’s never stopped going to that bar since.

Management lesson:

You can make a difference by how you treat people, especially when they make mistakes.

Start your day by listing three things you’re grateful for. They can be as simple as a warm cup of coffee, planting your flowers, or a hug from your child. This sets a positive tone for the day ahead.

Start a gratitude journal.
