Grooming operations are at about 75 percent. We are working new areas daily. The busy weekend set our base back a bit but new snow that we received should improve the system.

MECCA Trail Report:
Groomers are busy rolling all 21k of ski trails today! Trails should finished grooming later tonight or early tomorrow. We have 5” of new snow on the ground and it’s still snowing.

Winman Trails:
Cross-Country Ski: OPEN - Entire system had the skate lanes compacted and combed and tracks reset. Temperatures are hovering around 31 degrees today with more snow expected throughout the day. The deck itself should firm up nicely by 9am but the falling snow is sticky and wet.
Snowshoe: OPEN - Snowshoes are required. Great time to explore the Northwoods.
Fat Tire Bike: OPEN - We are out grooming the entire fat bike system this morning and will be working on it throughout the day and tomorrow as more snow accumulates. Expect soft conditions with falling snow but by Friday conditions should be excellent.

North Lakeland Discovery Center:
The trails are open and have had light foot and snowshoe traffic, but may have some icy spots, so please use caution. All trails have been rolled/groomed and our maintenance staff set tracks for classic cross-country skiing on December 21st. Please note some snow has fallen since the tracks were set. We will update this post again when additional grooming has occurred.

Ski hills are opening early this year! Our 3BR/2BA sleeps 11 in Northwoods Mercer is open for the season! It's 35 min drive to several ski hills that you can use your ski pass! Cooper Pass (Whitecap and Powerhorn) and Indy Pass (Big Powerhorn and Snowriver) and others (Mt. Zion and Minocqua Winterpark).

The cabin is also on Iron County snowmobile trail that you can enjoy scenic rides in Northwoods and UP and within 5 min to MECCA cross-country skiing and snowshoe trails. The cabin also has a game room, outdoor firepit, and close to downtown for great food. Lots of parking spaces.

Humble for another 5 stars review from our last guests. Our 3br/2bath lakefront cottage in Mercer has lots to offer all year round. On snowmobile iron county trail #8. Good ice fishing, close to MECCA cross country skiing trails and about 40min drive to skiing in UP during winter. In the summer, you can enjoy the ATV, biking, boating, and fishing in the Northwoods. Next to playground and swimming platform. Close to downtown for all the live music and fun activities. Great for family vacation.

MECCA Trails:
The grooming team was out early today, they combed the skate lane and set tracks. Conditions are good to very good with a medium soft surface. Cooler temps should firm everything up.
Snowshoe trails are open and inviting.
Please no boots on the ski or snowshoe trails.

Winman Trails:
ALL TRAILS ARE OPEN
Ski Trails are OPEN for Skate and Classic Skiing.
Entire trail system was groomed early this morning with a good deck and tracks. Still recommending B skis for both skate and classic at this time.
Fat Tire Biking Trails are OPEN.
Expect soft conditions and ride with low tire pressure.
Snowshoe Trails are OPEN.
This is a perfect week to get out an explore our snowshoe trails. The backcountry trails from the Papoose Lake Road trailhead should be fantastic.

North Lakeland Discovery Center:
Our trails are open, and were groomed today, however, we did not have enough snow to lay tracks, but folks can certainly still ski and snowshoe! Trails are in early winter condition, but more snow is expected in coming days so please check back after Christmas for updates!

We have snowshoes available on site.

Please keep in mind when visiting groomed trails that we do not allow walking/hiking on our groomed trails. Snowshoeing can occur on any trail, we just ask that folks stay to the side of the groomed ski tracks. Pets must be kept on a leash at all times and please pick up after them (no one likes p**p on their skis or snowshoes, and Ryan doesn't like it on the groomer either)- so please be a responsible pet owner!

We recommend the blue River Trail for snowshoeing, or walking with dogs. We do not track this trail for skiing (we do roll it, we just don't track it). Parking is available at the Tower Road parking area for easy access to this trail.

Ice Fishing Report:
There is 9-13" of ice on all lakes in the Mercer Area.
Some trucks are starting to make their way out to the ice, but most people wait until we get about 15-16".

For Ice Fishing, It is good to very good conditions at this time.

Let the snowmobile season begins!

The Iron County, WI snowmobile and winter ATV/UTV trails will reopen at 8:00 am on Wednesday, December 29, 2021.

Hurley and Mercer areas report 8-10 inches of snow overnight. Early season conditions exist, corners and hills could be icy.

Its 74' of eastern shores provide the best sunsets in the area nightly. Enjoy sitting on the private pier or enjoying a campfire and roasting marshmallows. For those who wish to snowmobile or UTV, Nordvann sits on the UTV trails and grants you access to over 300 miles of trails! The large level lots allow for plenty of parking spaces for trailers, UTVs and sleds.

If you're a Cross country skier or a hiker, the MECCA trailhead is a mere 5-minute drive to groomed trails. For bikers, the Heart of Vilas trail starts in Mercer and offers over 50 miles of paved bike paths with small bridges and winding trails.

For downhill skiers, the beautiful UP ski hills lay just 30 minutes away. And day trips will take you through the wilderness to waterfalls or take a short day trip up to the Apostle Islands.

Echo Lake is a 206-acre full rec lake with a public launch just a half-mile away. Echo Lake is a wonderful lake for peaceful fishing, canoeing and kayaking. The lake is stocked with Walleye and is home to Muskie, Northern Pike, Large and Smallmouth bass and panfish.
