Dakota is known for his online videos detailing our local area’s history and is a graduate of James Buchanan High School and Shippensburg University. MERCERSBURG! Join us TOMORROW, Monday, January 20th FOR OUR TOWN’s first annual SNOWBALL FIGHT! The event will take place at Lions Club Park and will begin precisely at 4PM after an official countdown. It’s going to be chilly so dress warm!

Hot cider and cookies will be provided on a first come first serve basis, compliments of The Inn at Historic Lane House.

Note: This community event is not affiliated with Lion’s Club Park or the Borough of Mercersburg. This event is intended to be fun in nature. Participants are asked to refrain from aiming snowballs at the face. Participants assume risk of embarrassment and hurt feelings by agreeing to play.

We’re pleased to announce Mercersburg’s newest business, Mountain View Bake Shop! Shelby officially established Mountain View Bake Shop (MVBS) as a fully inspected and licensed home bakery in January 2025. Shelby moved to Mercersburg two and a half years ago with her husband Andrew and they have two adorable young sons. ❤️

Shelby’s artisanal sourdoughs come in a variety of flavors, and feature a delicious and thin airy crust. Be sure to follow Mountain View Bake Shop to learn more about offerings and how to order. 🥖

Please note this is not a walk-in business. Baked goods may currently be picked up on Saturdays and Wednesdays (details confirmed during the ordering process).

The kind folks at the James Buchanan Pub and Restaurant generously invited our town’s Christmas tree cleanup crew inside for a warm fire and incredible lunch! We had a great time trying some delicious dishes and seeing the new changes in the restaurant. Be sure to check them out soon!

MAYORS NEW YEAR’S MESSAGE:

Dear Citizens of Mercersburg,

As we enter through a new year, I would like to take a moment to reflect upon our journey together as a community. 2024 has been a testament to the strength and unity of our townsfolk, who have continuously worked hand in hand to enhance the quality of life for all residents.

We’ve accomplished many things this year. The Mercersburg Vibrancy Steering Committee has laid the groundwork for our generation’s first Comprehensive Plan. We’ve made considerable additions to our municipal infrastructure by investing in public works, the police department, and town management. Funding has been secured so that we can plan for future efficient upgrades to our water and sewer systems. Surveys for street and sidewalk conditions have been conducted for future repair. Mercersburg Beautification invested in holiday banners, decor, and additional lighting which will utilized for the first time in 2025. These are just a few examples of the progress we have made, and we look forward to tackling many more initiatives that I know are important to our town’s future, vitality, and residents.

2025 will mark a significant milestone: 275 years since the earliest beginnings of a mill that would eventually become Mercersburg. This anniversary serves as a reminder that humble beginnings often give rise to great things. My hope is that we use this milestone to inspire us all to strive to improve our hometown in whatever way we can individually, whether that be helping an elderly neighbor with their yard work, painting neglected shutters, joining a local volunteer organization, or mentoring a student.

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the citizens of Mercersburg, Borough staff, and charity organizations for their commitment, resilience, and dedication throughout 2024. Together, we have laid the groundwork for an even brighter future and I look forward to continuing this journey with each of you in 2025.

We’re grateful to Betty Jane Lee for generously donating the 2024 Mercersburg Christmas tree! The eastern white pine was planted over 30 years ago by Betty Jane and her late husband Ken.

This past May, Betty Jane was awarded the Harriet lane Award. The award is given annually to an extraordinary individual who uplifts our community through service, art, and culture. Betty Jane has channeled her talents and passions over the years into dozens of initiatives, including her work with the Mercersburg Historical Society and leadership of the Mercersburg Women’s Club. The Christmas tree donation just underlines why she is so deserving of this honor!

We look forward to tonight’s lighting and having this beautiful tree on the borough square throughout the next month! 🎄

Sue Malone will be presenting “SOLO: Hiking the Pacific Northwest Trail”, a captivating story regarding her inspiring adventures in as a solo hiker. The Pacific NW Trail includes territory in 3 states: Montana, Idaho and Washington, and Sue has trekked it several times! This program is free to the public.
