You are warmly invited to the opening reception of our November exhibit, Colorful Reflections, at the Tim Murphy Art Gallery! Join us tonight (11/7/24) from 7–8:30 p.m. for an evening filled with art, conversation, and complimentary appetizers and drinks. This week's Fall in Love with Parks spotlight is on Waterfall Park! Come explore the beauty of this hidden gem and soak up all it has to offer! Visit the playful art sculpture and enjoy the nature around you. Make it a day—you might just fall in love with Waterfall Park!

You’ll definitely want to stop by this week’s Fall in Love with Parks featured park.

Waterfall Park is named for its most prominent natural feature – a waterfall in Turkey Creek 💦

The park features two practice soccer fields named after Julius McFarlin, the first African American elected to public office in Johnson County. He served as Merriam’s Ward 1 City Councilmember from 1973–2000.

Visitors can view the public art piece Hmmm... along the Turkey Creek Streamway Trail within the park.

Did you know? This area was the original home of the Merriam Farmers' Market until Merriam Marketplace was built in 2001.

Fall in Love with the Turkey Creek Streamway Trail, and enter to win a $100 gift card!

This week’s Fall in Love with Parks featured park is the Turkey Creek Streamway Trail.

The Turkey Creek Streamway Trail makes up 4 miles of a paved trail, starting at 75th St. and going north to Antioch Road.

The trail follows Turkey Creek and passes through wooded areas, a butterfly garden, and several parks. Trail-goers can also find public art at Waterfall Park, Merriam Marketplace, and just off the trail at the intersection of Merriam and Johnson drives.

Did you know? The land was acquired by the City of Merriam with after the 1998 torrential rainstorm flooded the area. Johnson County provided funds to help purchase the land and mitigate flood risks.

Did you know? Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church (the former Madam C.J. Walker School) just received word that they've also been nominated by the Kansas Historical Society for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places. This important decision now goes to the National Park Service in Washington, DC, and we should know soon if this pivotal time in Merriam's history will earn National designation.
