Night launch?? Sign us up! If you're in town tomorrow, make sure to catch this late-night flight from Space X! 🚀✨
NIGHT FLIGHT: A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket is set to launch the 22nd Dragon spacecraft, below, on its 20th cargo flight to the International Space Station late Friday, March 6. Liftoff is scheduled for 11:50 p.m. from Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station just north of the Port. The first stage booster is expected to land back at the Air Force Station around eight minutes after liftoff. The Dragon capsule will deliver more than 5,600 pounds of cargo when it arrives early Monday at the space station. The mission marks the final flight of the first version of SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft, which debuted in 2010 with a test flight in low Earth orbit.
Weather is currently 60 percent favorable for launch with liftoff winds the biggest concern, according to 45th Weather Squadron forecasters with the U.S. Air Force. Weather improves to 90 percent favorable for a Saturday launch if Friday's attempt is scrubbed.
Exploration Tower at Port Canaveral will open at 6 p.m. for launch ticket holders only. A special guest from the ISS U.S. National Laboratory will have a presentation “Research Aboard SpaceX 20” with a brief Q&A opportunity afterward. There will also be an interactive V/R Experience.
ELC Catering and Events will have an enhanced food and beverage menu at ET from 6 to 11:30 p.m. Menu options will be posted at the ET page.
At Jetty Park, normal entrance fees apply for the launch attempt. Sweet City Gelato and Kona Ice will be available at Jetty Park starting at 7 p.m.
