HAVANA, CUBA 2023 🇨🇺

I chose Cuba for my last trip of 2023, not only because it was my birthday celebration, but because I’ve always had a profound interest in the country’s rich culture and history. As a Travel Agent, I also wanted to personally uncover the mystique normally associated with the country.
Cuba is a very poor country with the most friendly, helpful and courteous people. Contrary to popular belief, I felt extremely safe in Cuba. I walked through the poverty-stricken neighborhoods in the rain, giving gifts bags to mothers and children, who were beyond grateful for their small tokens. The joy in the voice of the little girl who yelled “Mira Mama, Mira” as she ran down the street to her home, carrying her bag of medicines, snacks and other essentials, would forever be etched in my brain. My heart was full.
I was told by a sweet old lady that she would have thought I was Cuban if I wasn’t dressed like an ‘Americana’ LOL. I took that as a compliment since they have the most beautiful skin. I honestly didn’t know that there were so many very dark-skinned Cubans.
📌Tips/suggestions when travelling to Cuba;
· While most Cubans do not have to pay for rent, education or healthcare, many doctors, educators etc work multiple jobs since they are unable to survive on their meager salaries, equivalent to less than USD$20 a month. PLEASE do not visit the country without carrying essentials to give to the locals (hygiene/feminine products, medicines, snacks, toys, books, clothing, cash etc)
· When booking your flight, you need to select (1) of 12 categories of authorized travel to Cuba. I
selected “Support for Cuban People”
· You must have health insurance that includes Covid coverage. Most airlines include it in their airfare. Confirm with your airline.
· Most visitors need a tourist visa to enter Cuba. It can either be done in advance OR at the approved airports wit
