Today is August 8th. I've been home in Florida for about a month, and dodged Hurricane Debby. Today, I'm heading to Dublin to begin 86 days of travel and leading tours all over Europe. Hey I'm in Dublin at a relatively new Hampton Inn in the Smithfield/Flir Courts neighborhood. I flew over yesterday from Middleburg, Florida. Look what I found decorating the walls of my room!

Umbria and north Lazio are filled with off-the-tourist track destinations. We visited a few the other day. Orvieto valley, Lubriano, Civita de Bagnoregio, Lake Bolsena, and some Etruscan tombs in Sutri.

The are many mountains in Umbria and driving through them reminds me of the US Appalachian mountains, with an Italian flair, of course. We came upon a might waterfall jutting out of the mountainside. With a little research, I discovered these falls were the results of a lake and river power generating plant which diverts the rivers flow several times a day. When diverted to make power, the flow is .6 cubic feet per second. When let run wild, it is 15 cubic feet per second. Both scenarios are majestic. Marmore Waterfall is definitely worth the journey.

Charlotte and I had a few days to ourselves before our group arrived in Rome. So, we went off exploring Umbria and Lazio. Our first two days were spent in Assisi, home of Francis and Clare, who later were sainted by the Church. Here are a few scenes from the hilltop town of Assisi.

I’ve been in Italy for a few days now. It is my first time to Europe this year. Soon, we’ll begin our Amalfi and Islands tour, but before heading south, here are a few scenes from Orvieto. The “passegiata” is almost a daily ritual in Italy. Each evening, locals get out for a stroll to catch up with friends and family.

It's not very often I am relegated to the last seat in a Delta aircraft, but on Friday, I was. All in all, my flight from Atlanta to Phoenix was fine. Bravo to the flight attendants in the back of the main cabin! I am happy they got me an aisle seat! Delta Air Lines
