I love my quiet walks at Walnut Beach and it is especially lovely when I stumble upon such a precious find as this exquisite driftwood. I couldn't resist and took a picture, and with Charles Island on the background no less.

Did you know that during low tide you can actually walk to Charles island? Just be careful and time your return safely, as the water can rise quickly. It is indeed a sight to see.

Is it a bad thing to brag? I mean, not in a mean, obnoxious way, but more of "I am so proud of this, I can barely contain myself" kind of way.

Ever since we started the Airbnb I was dreaming to have a little token, something people could take home with them, to remind them of the cottage, and the beach, and their vacation, the sweet time with family and friends.

And it happened. A set of candle and a bath bomb with our signature logo and tag. They are unbelievably cute and I am super proud of them!

I tried different options and versions and finally stopped at this one...

A candle...to bring light in the dark times with the memory of good times.
A bath bomb, to experience the relaxation and overwhelming body calmness, as they did on vacation.

Can it be? Just saw the first Fall trees peaking through the sea of green in their orange outfits on top of the hill.

It put me in a wonderfully warm pumpkin spice latte kind of mood, don't judge. I know, I know, it's 85F outside.

So I had to. I just had to change the front door wreath today.

Fairy lights or daylight? Which one is your favorite?

I personally love the fairy lights...they can make any place a mix of magical and mysterious that can please not only the eyes, but heal the soul.

Whether you use this spot to hang out with a friend and a glass of good wine, telling stories about what was, or dream about the things that will be, or you breathe in the fresh morning air, stretching on a yoga mat, or sipping aromatic latte while living through the pages of your latest book...it's there for you, our sun room.

Every piece of furniture and every item in the house has a story.

When we set to do this, I wanted to take my time and find pieces that speak to me. I collected all the little bits and pieces for months. I didn't think about a concept or design just yet. I thought about the emotion, the person and the memories that each piece brings.

At a first glance..this is just a table set up. But when you look deeper, a lovingly collected china by a daughter who's mom recently passed away has been combined with more contemporary plain green plates.

The napkin rings came to me as a gift from a friend who I haven't seen in a long time now, a little memory to keep. The table is the first table I owned when I got an apartment on my own, lovingly sanded and refinished by me.

The little ball decorations in the middle didn't come as a set. Every time I saw one I liked, I picked it up. All of them remind me of different places, different experiences and different emotions.

And every single piece is a labor of love and care ❤️

Making our guests feel special is such a pleasure and makes me enormously happy! No wonder I wanted to be Santa when I was little.

When I found out that one of our guests is bringing her daughter as a birthday present on her actual birthday I just couldn't resist.

I woodburn all kinds of objects and it's been years since I have made one of the crayon boxes, but I thought that is a great gift for a 5 year old.

We also put a banner on the garage door so when they pull in the driveway they will see Happy Birthday. I forgot to take a picture in my excitment 😆.

The best part is they have absolutely no idea! I am so glad that I asked for the little girl's name so we can personalize the cake, the book and the box.

I am so excited, honestly I wasn't as excited for my own birthday that much LoL. I really, really hope she likes it and is surprised. 🎂🥳🎉🎈🎁🎊

Common spaces are not easy to design.

Living rooms have to appeal to EVERYONE.

When you are doing the decor for an Airbnb that is even more true, because visitors of all ages and backgrounds will visit.

So naturally, I decided that the best way to appeal to all, was to focus on what I am good at- comfort and warmth. I have seen plenty of sterille white spaces and I knew I have to go back to the basics- natural wood and leather.

My better half raised an eyebrow when he saw the color of the couch but at this point in our relationship he knows better than to doubt me.

I browsed for days in antique stores and sales, until I found the perfect items to work with. I had the idea in my head generally of what I would do. Once I started, I was going up and down between the basement where I stored all decor and the living space. Fitbit floors for the win! Ha!

When I was done, I knew it was a winner. It was comfy, cozy, inviting, it opened up the space enormously with the light color scheme without making it look sterile.

I love this room!
I know I am not the only one...

Breakfast in bed? Yes, please!
When I designed the master bedroom I wanted it to be relaxing, with muted tones and gentle complexion.

I wanted it to be a room for reprieve from the madness of the everyday whirlwind.

Every little thing in this room has been chosen, refinished or made by me. Every piece of furniture has been specifically selected and redone before the paint even hit the walls. Every piece of decor has been carefully placed in its place to bring you joy.

I wanted YOU to curl up with the cozy blanket and a steaming cup of Earl Gray and crumpets, enjoying the quiet vibrations of tranquility.

Did I succeed?

Making a boring fence into something special? Yes, please! We are all about using reclaimed materials.

It brings me personally so much joy, knowing that I used something that someone else was going to throw away, pouring love on it and watching it blossom, ready for its new life and once again bringing joy.

In a way, I think myself as the opposite of Marie Kondo. I take the things that no longer bring joy to others and make them bring joy to our family (guests, friends, relatives etc).

This project was no different. Discarded old frames that needed some love, care and a vision....and voila... fence decor for the win!

When we stay at an Airbnb I always appreciate the small things that the hosts considered. Not just the amenities, but the little personal touches that make stays at an Airbnb so unique.

So when we started offering our house to guests, I was super excited to make it unforgettable. I wanted people to be able to take something with them when they leave.

I began brainstorming and I narrowed it down to a couple of things (will share next) but it all started with the logo. I wanted it to unmistakably represent walnut trees.

My grandparents had a farm where I spent every summer and we had gorgeous, majestic walnuts planted all around the property. There were stories and mystery surrounding one of the biggest trees.

The harvesting of walnuts was an event and my cousins and I would play with the leaves, eat the nuts and climb the walnuts throughout our childhood.

We would take refuge from the excruciating heat under their shadow, we would make up stories and play games with the fallen walnuts. All of the canning of preserves was done under these trees too.

When a lightning storm hit, one of the trees protected the house and took the hit instead of the roof. I always knew it was not a coincidence. Many were saying that this tree contained the soul of our ancestor who planted it. That day I believed it.

Walnuts have always been special to me. So, I knew it wasn't a coincidence when we found our house at Walnut Beach and when life events brought us to offering it for others to stay.

To me walnut trees have always been a symbol of comfort, protection and memories...

I couldn't design any other logo but this one. I am sharing with you because it means so much more to me than being pretty....but being pretty is awesome too.

As a person who is infamous owner of a black thumb when it comes to potted flowers, I am thrilled to say that our selection at the Walnut Beach Cottage is alive and thriving. Apparently, all I needed was a bit of a guidance and encouragement! When we were doinging the backyard photoshoot I was determined (direct quote) that "these-plants-will-live-past-the-hous-of-the-photoshoot-damn-it" and I am glad I reached out to our local Zentek Farms for help. They helped me make the right choices and gave me valuable info on how to take care of the plants in a sustainable way, starting with the question, "So, what kind of watering schedule can you accommodate?". And here it is...all my life I thought i had a black thumb when in fact I was taking on the task to take care of a "puma" in my house when I was apparently more of a "fish in a bowl" kind of plant owner. That is why I love local businesses, it is a bit less intimidating to reach out and confess your plant care deficiencies so they can help you!
