Mornings on our mini-farm! You may not know, but we live on a mini-farm, just around the corner from our vacation rental apartment in downtown Millersburg. Here's our new mama hen protecting her 11 chicks. She hatched 9 of them and 2 newbies were introduced to her flock. She took them, "under her wing," and all are doing fine. Turn up your sound for sweet chirps!

I’ve been asked, “What was your favorite part about your renovation?” Well, I would say, most of it for the short answer. It’s exciting to see the dramatic transformation.

My strengths come from the design / decorating side.

Without any training in design, I did what most of us would do and found a FREE app to plan the space. This was fun to put up walls and solve space issues. We added a 4’ wide staircase from the front door of the building. Before this addition, the only way to get into the apt was via the catwalk that goes across the garage from the alley in the back.

Next, where to place the kitchen and bathroom? The most cost-effective plan would be to place them beside each other. This way all the plumbing works together and we weren’t into the extra expense to run plumbing to a separate space.

I really pushed for a soaking tub, in the bathroom. So, we have a roomy shower, and modern free-standing tub. Love it!

Then, we wanted a spacious living space. The front room is 19’X20’ which is larger than most hotel rooms. Even though it’s a large space, it’s incredibly inviting and comfortable.

We also needed room for a kitchen featuring a full appliance package.
I was adamant about adding insulation in the interior walls. This paired with all new windows means the space is exceptionally quiet even though it sits on the main street, just west of the downtown square.

All of these decisions maximized on the 1200 square foot space to create an open and relaxing feel.

I made all the final decisions on the design and decoration you see, including floor plan layout, paint, and flooring. Of course, my husband, Chad, was able to give his opinion. And, sometimes, I listened. HA!

Credit to my husband Chad with all of the laborious work. He got the demo rolling, completed a portion of the electrical/plumbing, and other than a bit of my help, completed ALL of the finish work. He is truly a hard worker that takes pride in doing things the right way.

Holmes County is a county located in the U.S. state of Ohio. As of the 2020 census, the population was 44,223. Its county seat is Millersburg. The county was formed in 1824 from portions of Coshocton, Tuscarawas and Wayne counties and organized the following year. It was named after Andrew Holmes, an officer killed in the War of 1812.

Holmes County, which was about 42% Amish in 2010, and 48% in 2020, has the highest concentration of Amish in the world, which draws many visitors to the county. The Holmes Amish settlement (which also includes Amish from the neighboring counties, such as: Wayne, Coshocton, Tuscarawas and Stark) is the second biggest one in the world (after the Lancaster County, Pennsylvania) and numbered 37,770 people in 2021.

I am creating Your Opinion Needed in the hopes of understanding and potentially adding amenities that vacationers would like to see in Ohio's Amish Country.

This is a 3-part question. Please IM me your response. I look forward to reading them!

Bicycle availability – Holmes County, OH hosts miles and miles of asphalt walking/ biking trails (Rails to Trails). There is beautiful scenery along the way and Suite on Jackson is one block away from Hipp Station where you can jump on the trail. Would you enjoy having a bicycle available to you? Yes / No

A) If yes, in order of preference, what type of bike:

1A) Regular bike
2A) e-bike (can pedal or ride on the electric motor)
3A) Street Strider (like an elyptical machine). Great for riding standing up.
4A) Other _____________________________________

A little insight to Suite on Jackson
My Favorite Room:

Through the construction, I really fell in love with the bathroom. I love the black hexagon tile on the floor and the white subway tile in the shower that mimics the original brick wall that is the accent wall in the room. My favorite piece of the bathroom is the free-standing tub. I chose to put a chandelier above the bathtub to create “mood lighting” while taking a bath. I love the muted brass faucets and the black towel bars / mirror. I really think we did a great job in this room.
With as much as I love the bathroom, the other day, I sat in the front room on the sofa and looked out the windows. It was so quiet and peaceful. I said to myself, “ I love this room!” It’s a simple room with a large sofa and 2 side-chairs in the Chesterfield style, a nod to the era when our building was built, circa 1900.
In this room, I do have on display an old church choir booklet that was found in the demo process. It’s dated 1904! And, I kept a small section of a fabric backed wall paper hidden under many layers of wallpaper form the original walls in the space.
While I’m torn between the bathroom and the front living space, I have to say; the front room wins because it’s where guests will spend most of their time while visiting.
