Please be informed! We have quite a few trails at the Williamsburg Forest that were impacted by what we thought was a microburst, but after more inspection we are leaning towards a small tornado due to the path of destruction. Please hike at your leisure but understand that we are in the process of planning a salvage harvest and clean up. Thank you for your patience! 🌲

Maine's Ripogenus Gorge is one of the most stunning and well-hidden spots in the state. This rock-walled canyon is located along the West Branch of the Penobscot River, and is made up Class IV rapids...making it one of the best stretches of river to raft and kayak you'll find among Maine's Big Three Rivers. There are a number of whitewater rafting and kayaking outfitters that lead guided floats down this stretch of the river, offering one of the best looks you'll get of this breathtaking gorge near the 100 Mile Wilderness.

Get in the mood to count some broods! We have two weeks down and two weeks to go in the 2024 Wild Turkey August Production Survey. πŸ¦ƒ

Wild turkey management is a year-round effort! When hunters register their turkeys in the spring and fall, they are providing critical data for monitoring the state's wild turkey population. In the winter, biologists band turkeys to evaluate reporting rates and fine-tune harvest rates and population estimates.

Summer is the time for community scientist to shine in Maine's wild turkey management. Can we count on you? By reporting turkey observations to the production survey each year, anyone can provide important reproduction data that contributes to management decisions.

For the remainder of the month, all you have to do is fill out a brief online form at mefishwildlife.com/turkeysurvey when you see wild turkeys. Here's the info you'll need:

πŸ—Ί Town
πŸ“… Date
βœ… Number of Adult Females
πŸ¦ƒ Number of Adult Males
πŸ”’ Number of Poults
🐀 Size of Poults (quarter, half, or three quarters the size of the hen)
