The cornflake-crusted chicken got its inspiration from an American fast food staple. “I couldn’t afford KFC. This was our version,” Alston says. It was also one of the first things he learned to cook, at age 13, from his mom.

The pancake is also a powerful reminder of Spandet’s grandmother – it’s her recipe. “Whenever I come home [to her parents], [the dish] I ask my mom to make is Grandma’s Dutch baby. So we have it pretty, pretty frequently there and my kids are really into it. And it’s just become a family staple,” she says.

What a night! Thank you to everyone who came out to Christian Yelich's second annual Home Plate Charity Concert at the Pabst Theater. It was such an amazing night hanging out with DJ Shawna, Charlie Berens, Nicotine Dolls and Scotty McCreery. From the night, we raised over $350,000! The ticket sales benefit three causes near and dear to the Yelich Family: Visit Milwaukee, Team Red, White & Blue and the Brewers Community Foundation. Visit Milwaukee's foundation supports scholarships for local students specializing in the hospitality industry at Milwaukee area colleges and universities. Funds raised will also help the organization create a new emergency relief fund for local small businesses, beginning in late 2024. Team RWB helps veterans lead healthier lives through fitness events, training and programs. The contributions to Team RWB will help support wellness programs for military veterans living in the Greater Milwaukee community. Brewers Community Foundation harnesses the pride, passion and commitment of Brewers fans, players and other supporters to positively impact the lives of children and their families in Greater Milwaukee and Wisconsin. Funding efforts shall strategically extend financial support to nonprofits that provide quality programming in the areas of health, education, recreation and basic needs, with a particular focus on low-income and disadvantaged youth and their families.
