From Lake Anna Weather LLC- Snow on track for Wednesday… Unseasonably Cold this week…
Tuesday will be chilly day, but nice with light winds.
The system, that will bring snow to the area on Wednesday, is now over the western US. As I mentioned a couple of days ago, this is the key to really getting a good handle on the system, since we now have a much better idea of the initial state of the system and the atmosphere around it. The overnight models have come into much better agreement and continue to show a very progressive system skirting well to our south on Wednesday.
Snow should move into the LKA Wednesday morning with snow continuing into the overnight and ending Thursday morning. The period of heaviest snow should be Wednesday afternoon into the evening. This will be an all-snow event for the LKA region. No chance for a change to sleet/freezing rain. Overall, model snow amounts have significantly decreased, due to the suppressed track of the surface low-pressure system, and the fast movement. I should have listened to my gut yesterday and held off one more day before going with initial amounts. I am going to lower the LKA snowfall range to 3-5”.Lower amounts NW of LKA and heavier amounts SE of LKA. The Richmond area and into southeast VA are now in the region of potential heaviest snows.
Winds in the wake of this system will create some blowing snow, with wind chill temperatures in the teens and 20s. It should be a rather dry snow that won’t stick to the trees/power lines.
We might see some flurries on Saturday as a weak impulse rides over the region.
Temperatures into this weekend will remain well below normal.
