In September, The Hitching Company was honored to be part of a wide array of meaningful events, from our enchanting nightly carriage tours through Minneapolis to intimate and grand celebrations alike. We provided elegant rides for weddings, adding a magical touch to couples' special day, as well as memorable quinceañeras, where families celebrated coming-of-age traditions. We also had the privilege of offering carriage services for funerals, providing a dignified and heartfelt tribute, and took part in a vibrant Baraat ceremony. Additionally, our E-Bike tours were a hit, offering riders a unique way to explore the city’s beautiful fall scenery.

Celebrating the 4th of July in Forest Lake with a morning parade! The Grand Marshal Paul, Diane, and their great-granddaughter and granddaughter rode together, enjoying the parade despite a few sprinkles. The event drew a fantastic crowd, making it a memorable community celebration. Thanks for including us! Houdini pulled the carriage, and Marisa skillfully guided him through the parade.

This past Sunday, June 9, we experienced a delightful first for our company. We had the unique opportunity to be part of not one, but two weddings at the same location and time!

How did this happen? Ren and Jeff were preparing to depart from the Landmark Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota, in our carriage, heading to their first stop at Mancini’s Char House for dinner and the reception. While they were getting ready to step into the carriage, Taksh was gearing up to ride our horse, Houdini, in his Baraat Ceremony with his family and friends.

It was a magical sight to see both celebrations starting simultaneously, filled with joy and excitement. We extend our heartfelt blessings to both Sharon & Taksh and Ren & Jeff. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your special day. Your trust in The Hitching Company made this unique moment possible, and we wish you all the happiness in your new journeys together.

We would like to welcome a new team member to the herd, Rip! He traveled all the way from South Carolina, and we can’t wait for him to hit the city streets!

Vet Visit
Vet Visit

Today, we had the vet come out to draw blood to test for coggins and to issue health certificates. In order to issue a health certificate, the vet uses a stethoscope to listen to their heart and lungs to ensure that everything sounds good, and will also take the horse’s temperature to check that they are not actively fighting off any illnesses. For the coggins test, blood is drawn to identify if the horse is a carrier of Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA), which can cause horses to have fevers, anemia, edema, or weight loss. EIA is not a disease that is contagious towards humans, but it can be contagious from horse to horse when blood is passed around by flies. Our horses are at a lower risk of being exposed to EIA as they are stabled greater than 880 yards from other horses and seldom come into contact with horses outside of our herd.

Something you may not know is that we also host photo shoots! Just bring your model and a photographer, and we will provide the horses. With beautiful scenery, lighting, and of course horses, your photos always turn out amazing!

A very popular event we provide for are baraat ceremonies! A baraat is a celebratory procession at Indian weddings, where the groom rides through the procession on a white mare while his family dances around him to live music. These ceremonies are tons of fun to be apart of! Our white mare, Cassidy, is a total star and is completely unfazed by loud music, drums, people dancing around her, etc. making her the perfect baraat horse! If you are interested in using Cassidy for your baraat, please call us 612-338-7777 and we will be happy to work with you!

Let us help you make your loved one’s final journey to their resting place a special one. Carissa led a beautiful funeral procession last week at Como Lake. Our horses are able to keep up with the procession easily, and for longer distances we use our wonderful team, Duke and Hershey. A horse drawn carriage is a beautiful way to honor a loved one.

Morning Chores Downtown
Morning Chores Downtown

Here’s a sneak peak of the morning chores while the horses are downtown! Each hay net is able to hold half of a bale of hay, and we refill them twice a day. We also feed one heaping scoop of grain, muck out their stalls, sprinkle lyme over wet spots to eliminate ammonia build up and to keep flys down, clean and refill waters, and of course give them a good brushing down. These chores are done once in the morning, and again when our drivers arrive for the evening.

Enjoy a half hour, Mississippi River Carriage Tour for $72.00, or for that special occasion, indulge with our one hour, Mississippi River Grand Carriage Tour for $126.00. Rides leave from The Nicollet Island Inn at 95 Merriam St. in Minneapolis Reservations are recommended.

Weddings

Add Old World romance to your wedding day by riding to the reception hall in our grand carriage. Our horses have been present at hundreds of weddings and our drivers know how to make your day magical. For Baraat/Indian wedding traditions, we have a white mare and authentic Indian regalia for both the horse and handler.
