Hey pals! We’ve been a little MIA for a bit so here’s a little update! We’ve been booked solid these last few months which feels truly unreal to say the least. We also earned Superhost status on which was such a huge goal for us! We can’t wait to head back ourselves next month and get to soak in all we’ve worked so hard for ✨

Moab is filled with such wonder ✨ no matter how often I go, it never ceases to give me butterflies in the best way. Each visit I come back with a renewed sense of adventure. It’s incredible how seeing it through the eyes of others can breathe new life into this dusty desert. There’s some kind of special magic here, that’s for sure 🏜

There she is in all her bamboo glory ✨ The most highly anticipated piece of the entire Casita! I originally designed the living room around this chair alone and I’m so glad she’s finally up! I wanted to created a silhouette where guests could snap unique photos and truly capture the soul of the space. What do you think, was it worth the wait?!

For the longest time I was so scared to mix different patterns and textures. I thought everything had to be minimal, clean and simple to work together in harmony. We sat in the Casita a few months ago feeling something was missing, it didn’t feel quite as homey as we envisioned and we racked our brains trying to figure out why. We realized it felt too sterile, lacking the excitement that brought us to this journey in the first place. My instinctual minimalist design approach didn’t quite work with the imaginative southwestern motif we were striving for. So we played with adding different textiles and worked to create something bold yet natural and true to the Utah desert. We stayed within a chosen color palette to help marry the different patterns in a way that felt seamless. The outcome is better than we could have ever imagined, we truly never want to leave ✨

Those little subtle touches that add so much personality ✨ I’ve never been a super sentimental person when it comes to mementos but I’ve found as we live and collect meaningful experiences, we attempt to find more tangible ways to remember those special or sacred moments of our lives. Our sweet friend Julie gifted us this little bear because it reminded her of our Winnie bear. I think I’ll always look at it and feel the excitement and nervousness of first launching this crazy dream. I’ll remember that one time we took a chance on ourselves and how the people in our lives supported us more fiercely than I could have ever imagined.

Step into a world where time slows down ✨ We wanted the front patio to be immediately welcoming and warm upon arrival, to further reinforce our hope of finding inner peace and true relaxation here in the desert. In the mornings the patio is completely shaded and the perfect cool spot to enjoy a cup of coffee and breakfast.

Our prized Cereus Forbesii Spiralis (Spiral Peruvian Cactus) 🌵Did you know we have about 13 different cactus plants who live at the Casita full time? Touch at your own risk though, some have a real attitude problem.

This is probably the piece we’re most excited about in the entire Casita! This beautiful weaving is from the incredibly talented Navajo woman, Irene Clark. Born of the Water’s Edge Clan Tábąąhá, Irene was born in 1934 and raised in Crystal, New Mexico. Her mother was master weaver Glenabah Hardy; Irene weaves in the same Crystal style as her mother and grandmother.

Irene says, “I do my blessing before each rug. I thank Mother Earth for the plants that give color to my wool, for the sky above me, the air I breathe, for mother earth for grounding me. All this gives me a good feeling to weave”... “Everything is in the weaving, it’s in your hands, it’s in your weaving tools, and it’s in your mind. Design and dyeing are related to how you think of yourself, and it will show in how you weave your rug. Good thoughts, prayers, songs are what you need.”

Our hope is that every guest who walks into this space can immediately feel those blessings and this piece continues to inspire many more for years to come. It was so important for us to source works from as many Navajo artists as possible. I wanted the true spirit of this land to shine through and for this place to feel sacred.
