Glenn called us and explained he wanted something really special for his family. Every year they plan a unique trip to take together. Given it was July in the desert, our goal was to find water to help with the higher temps. We swam, waded, and shimmeyed our way through the slots together for three days, and it was a really memorable trip for our guides, and hopefully them!
Thank you for trusting us to show you a small part of our backyard! Come back soon!

Guest spotlight✨
The Rays came to us with goals to explore as much of Moab as possible for their vacation. We spent two days with them canyoneering, packrafting, and capped it off with an overnight camping trip together.
Spending a few days with the Rays was definitely a memorable trip for us, their love for sharing moments together in the outdoors was pretty special to be around. We hope to see you all down the road sometime! ✨

Happy Winter Solstice! ❄️

During the winter solstice, the earth’s axis is tilted at its furthest point from the sun. This means that, for us in the northern hemisphere, the sun is at its lowest point in the sky. It’s also the shortest day of the year – and the longest night.
Fun fact- Watch your shadow today-the sun’s low angle in the sky means that you will cast your longest midday shadow of the year.
We hope you all have a chance to get outside today and enjoy whatever landscape you may be in. ✨

About Us

In 1997, Desert Highlights began as Moab’s first and only canyoneering guide service. Canyoneering is our specialty and we find it particularly enjoyable to visit canyons that allow our guests to have a solitary experience. As canyoneering has become increasingly popular over the last 20 years, we have remained passionate about exploring new and more remote canyons. We love what we do and take pride in the numerous canyoneering routes in the Moab area that we have personally explored and created in an attempt to get away from the trade routes that have become so popular amongst other commercial and private canyoneering groups. Sometimes this exploration requires tools such as mountain bikes and/or packrafts (small, one person inflatable boats that fit easily into your backpack), which help us unlock remote areas that would otherwise be inaccessible - a canyoneering experience only available with Desert Highlights.

We love canyoneering because we believe it can be done by any age at any ability level. In fact, we often say that a sense of adventure is more important than age and/or ability. We focus on small groups, as we believe that building a trusting relationship with each of our guests is just as important as the canyoneering itself. If you want to run through the trade routes smushed into a large group with strangers, look elsewhere! However, if you have a "curiosity for the unknown" and value personalized attention, then allow us to give you a canyoneering experience you’re sure not to forget!
