🚨 Hurricane Season Forecast Update 🚨
CSU has just updated their forecast for this year's hurricane season. While the predicted number of hurricanes and major storms (Category 3 and above) remains unchanged, they've now lowered the expected number of named storms to 23—two fewer than last month's estimate. With another disturbance already on the radar, this season continues to be active.

Debby made landfall on Florida's Big Bend at 7 a.m. ET as a Category 1 hurricane with 80 mph winds; later downgraded to a tropical storm. At least four deaths have been confirmed.
Florida is facing life-threatening storm surges and severe flooding, with over 300,000 without power. Gov. Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency for 61 counties, mobilizing 3,000 National Guard members.

Beryl was the first hurricane of the 2024 Atlantic season, and the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration warns that the North Atlantic could see up to seven major hurricanes compared to the average of three annually.

The most severe storms were predicted for midafternoon to early evening, with the possibility of them continuing overnight. Keep an eye out, especially if you're in Tulsa, Oklahoma; Kansas City, Missouri; Omaha, Nebraska; or Des Moines, Iowa. Stay informed and stay safe! #StormWatch #TornadoSighting
Expect severe weather tonight across western Kansas, northwest Texas, and central Oklahoma. In western Kansas this afternoon and evening, storms are likely to develop along the dryline, potentially turning into supercells. These supercells could produce large hail, reaching 2-3 inches in diameter. As they move northeastward, they may become elevated supercells, posing a risk of strong tornadoes later in the evening due to increased low-level moisture and shear. In the Texas Panhandle and western Oklahoma this afternoon and evening, conditions could support supercells capable of producing large hail and tornadoes. In northwest Texas and Oklahoma overnight, storms are expected to form clusters or line segments, increasing the risk of large hail and damaging winds of 60-70 mph. Embedded supercells may enhance the hail threat, with a few tornadoes also possible as low-level shear strengthens. We will provide updates as the situation develops.
