We just sold another spot on our 2025 trip that leaves two motorcycles open still. If you've been thinking of going please get in touch with us before they're all gone. In a few weeks as winter sets in I'll have more time and I'll start looking for more riders to fill the last two spots.

One of my favorite places to visit is the city of Cochem, another medieval town on the mosel river founded in 1294, here is a little more about it. Cochem was an Imperial estate. It was pledged by King Adolf of Nassau in 1294 to the Archbishopric of Trier and remained Electoral-Trier territory until the French occupation began in 1794. In 1332, Cochem was granted town rights, and shortly thereafter, the town fortifications, which still stand today, were built

We had the pleasure of hosting some of our 2019 tour members John and Lisa, this weekend they brought their big motorhome up and set up camp at our place for the weekend. As they had some family things to attend to. That's the thing I love about doing these tours is the friends we make.

Schnitzel is a beloved German dish consisting of a breaded and fried cutlet of pork, chicken, or veal. The meat is pounded thin, coated in a light batter, and then fried to a golden crisp. Schnitzel is often served with a squeeze of lemon and a side of fries, potato salad, or braised red cabbage. Variations include Wiener Schnitzel (veal) and Schweinschnitzel (pork). This satisfying and flavorful dish is a staple of German cuisine, enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. My personal favorite is jagerschnitzel.

Have you ever been here?
The Porta Nigra, an ancient Roman gate in Trier, Germany, stands tall as a testament to history! This incredibly well-preserved landmark has been a part of the city's landscape since around 180 AD. Its dark stone exterior gives it the name "Black Gate", and its nine gates, including the central one, are a sight to behold. Once part of the Roman city wall, it was later converted into a church and hermitage. Today, it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a must-visit destination. Be amazed by its grandeur and rich history.

One of the things everyone loves about this trip is the food and the beer. The friendships we build both with our guests and with our local family and friends. We have many get togethers in the evenings. Here are some photos of the fun.

Day three, Sunday August 4th:

Today we traveled to the town of Bernkastel-Kues once again, but this time to explore this wonderful city on the Mosel. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernkastel-Kues #

Here there are many shops and restaurants. You can take a relaxing boat ride on the Mosel, explore shopping and dining, or just people watch. The architecture and age of the buildings here is absolutely amazing. Many of the buildings are from the 1400's

Our next stop was the cities of Traben-Trarbch, again much like Bernkastel-Kues, here we found a really neat restaurant built in 1400, we stopped for a beer.

From Traben-Trarbach we rode over to Idar-Oberstein for dinner at the Airport. This little airport was built by the US ARMY after WWII, it sits high above the city, it is a grass runway, here you can sit and watch many small planes come and go, they also have a glider club here. Gliders are really fun to watch. The restaurant here was voted the best airport restaurant in Germany a few years ago.

Day Two, Saturday August 3rd: After a very nice breakfast we headed to Burg Eltz. Burg Eltz is 131km ride so just over 2 hours.

It is the best two hours on a bike you can spend, riding along the Mosel river and passing through several very beautiful towns along the way. In the town of Alf, we stopped for some coffee cake, ice cream.
Then onword. Just as we arrived at Eltz and got parked it started to rain, not to much. We all huddled under a tree and waited it out. Once it stopped we started down the path it is about a mile downhill walk through the forest, on the left is the mountainside, and on the right drops offs some hundreds of feet. It is perfectly safe, as long as you stay on the path.

Here is a little about Eltz.

Eltz Castle (German: Burg Eltz) is a medieval castle nestled in the hills above the Moselle between Koblenz and Trier, Germany. It is still owned by a branch of House of Eltz who have lived there since the 12th century. Eltz Castle along with Bürresheim Castle and Lissingen Castle are the only castles in the Eifel region which have never been destroyed.

The castle stands on a 70-metre-high (230 ft) rock spur that is bounded on three sides by the river Elzbach, a tributary on the north side of the Moselle. The surrounding Eltz Forest has been declared a nature reserve by Flora-Fauna-Habitat and Natura 2000.

Our next stop was the city of Cochem, for some lunch. Then on to Bernkastel-Kues were we stopped for some refreshments. Then we returned to BIR about 6:30 pm This was a very pleasant day.

Day One, Friday Aug 2

We arrived at the Harley dealer in Luxembourg about 9am to pick up our bikes, From there we head to the American WWII cemetery just up the road to pay our respects. Then we head for the German border, here we stop for photos, then on to Konz Germany to visit another Harley dealer. Then we go to Trier Germany, Trier is the oldest city in Germany. Also home to Karl Marx.

Next stop is Birkenfeld our home base to check into our rooms, the off to Idar-Oberstein Birthplace of actor Bruce Willis, here we have dinner at the best restaurant we know of in Germany.

Trier, city, Rhineland-Palatinate Land (state), southwestern Germany. It lies on the right bank of the Moselle (Mosel) River, surrounded by the foothills of the Eifel, Hunsrück, and Mosel mountains, just east of the border with Luxembourg. A shrine of the Treveri, a Germanic tribe, existed at the site (c. 400 bce). The Roman town was founded by the emperor Augustus about 15 bce. The city’s strategic position at a crossroads contributed to its rapid rise as a commercial and administrative centre; it was the capital of the Belgic division of Roman Gaul in the 2nd century ce, an imperial seat in the 3rd century, and later, as Treveris, the seat of the emperor responsible for Gaul and Britain.

We departed our local airport and landed in Chicago for our flight to London, then to Luxembourg. We had some delays and missed our last flight. O'well in all the years doing this, this is first time we had an issue like this. Like I always say, "What Ever"
