Looking forward to seeing everyone at our 1st Kauffman Travel Team Dream Vacations Travel Club meeting of 2020! Join us on Tuesday, January 21 at The Chapel of Eastlake Community Church on Hendricks Store Road in Smith Mountain Lake. Mix and Mingle starts at 5:30PM. Port of Kusadasi, Turkey continued. The culmination of our very long and amazing day was Amazara's AzAmazing Evening. This was incredible. Azamara bussed 600 guests to Ephesus for an exclusive performance of a 9-piece string orchestra in the Odeon. The Odeon or theater was built in the 2nd century as a home for Roman meetings and a concert hall for performances. The Odeon seats 1,500 and the acoustics in this open air venue was remarkable
We were seated about 4 rows from the top and heard this group which was performing without any electronic amplification.

Port of Kusadasi, Turkey continued. Two other sites we visited were The Virgin Mary,the site where it is said Mary was assumed into Heaven. The Apostle John had promised Jesus that he would care for Mary and brought her to a home outside of Ephesus. John finished his writings nearby and is buried in and honored with the building of the Basilica of St. John now in ruins.

Docked in Kusadasi, Turkey to access the ruins of Ephesus, originally colonized by the Ionians in the 10th Century BC. The ruins here are of the city established by Lyssimachos 2,000 years ago. Following are pictures of the ruins. I will do additional posts of some of the other sites visited on Sunday, Sept. 1st.

Friday we were in the port of Kavala, Greece. Beautiful town. Right over the mountain are the ruins of the ancient city of Philippi. Of primary interest is the jail cell which held the Apostle Paul for over a year. Also in that area is the location where Paul baptized the first woman - Lydia. The history on this trip is amazing.

Spent the day in Thessaloniki, Greece. This is the second largest city in Greece. Viewed several Greek Orthodox churches, the former wall which surrounded the ancient city, a lot of archeological finds going back to several thousand years BC, a beautiful waterfront and great views from the top of the city.
