History lesson of the day!😜

On this day in 1966, Smith Mountain Lake first reached its normal elevation of 795 feet above sea level, locally known as "full pond." After the Blackwater and Roanoke rivers were dammed, the filling process took nearly 2.5 years!

🐕 It's Foster Friday! Our pup for the week is Flex!!
Affectionate three year old Flex has been waiting for a forever home for 153 days. He enjoyed a day out with one foster and an extended holiday vacation with another, and they both had great things to say about him. Although he appears high energy in the shelter, in a home, he just loves to cuddle or relax/sleep near you. He may be housetrained -- no accidents while he was visiting and he went to the door when he needed to go potty. He knows sit and down and is treat motivated. Flex is 3 years old and 43 pounds. He is listed as a Pit Bull Terrier.

Opening Day is officially set – we’ll be spinning the lifts and dropping the ropes next Wednesday, Nov. 23! ❄🦃

Season Passholders and employees are welcome to join us Tuesday, Nov. 22 for an exclusive preview day. We expect to have around a dozen trails open, including Progression Park and Gandy Dancer.

Looking ahead, the forecast looks cold and snowy. It’s going to be a strong start to the season here in West Virginia!
