A rare sighting of Sitatunga out in the open!
These stunning amphibious antelope are really elusive, choosing to stick to their self-made tunnels through the thick sedge, papyrus, and bulrushes of the backwater swamplands. Their feet specially evolved with elongated toes, that splay out better walk through their waterlogged, muddy habitats!

Celebrating good news this World Rhino Day with this wonderful video.
Thusa and Kusasa are North West Zimbabwe's newest residents and the first Rhino's to be protected on community land.
We will be going to visit these special Rhinos in August 2023 during our Conservation Immersion Safari.

Places are filling on our Conservation Immersion Safari to Zimbabwe for August 2023.
It is going to be a phenomenal trip privately guided by myself and Lewis Mangaba

Amongst the wonderful experiences will be: going to see the first White Rhino on community land in Zimbabwe, heavily protected by the Cobras Community Protection Unit.

Whilst staying at the Imvelo camps, I visited with the Mgamo village Headman, Johnson, and the Cobra's in February before the relocation of the Rhino and I look forward to visiting again now that the Rhino have settled into their new wilderness.

There is so much more to an African safari than the big iconic megafauna which we will see.

African Jacanas are very special birds for a number of reasons:
Firstly their immensely long toes help them walk on floating vegetation like lily pads.
They are Polyandrous (opposite to polygamy) whereby the female mates with a male, lays eggs, and then leaves the male to incubate and raise the young, whilst she leaves to find another male to mate with.
Their eggs are Pyriform (very pointed at one end) so that if disturbed they will roll in a tight circle and hopefully not roll into the water.
They also have some cool and unique ways to protect themselves from predators too! like hiding under daddy's wings, with only lots of long gangly feet hanging down from Daddy's belly

Whilst we all toil over the hump in our work week, know that somewhere in the African savannah, an African Civet (Civettictus civetta) is waking up for a new nights foraging, feasting on things like termites, millipedes and fruits.

Not uncommon to see, especially on a nocturnal drive civets are so cool!!

Conservation is all about people.
Looking at these bone beads under an ancient Boabab tree, at the site of an old village from around 150 years ago, reminds us that those communities living around National Parks and game reserves have lived alongside giants for thousands of years.
How they do so in the modern-day and how human/wildlife conflict mitigation and community empowerment.
This will be the focus of On Safari - in's Conservation Immersion Safari in Zimbabwe 2023.
