History: Montague Township is located at the top of New Jersey, bordering Pennsylvania and New York State. Montague was established in 1759 and was the earliest settled town in this part of the country. Montague also established America’s first commercial highway known as Old Mine Road. cape, and has a population of approximately 3,847. The Township of Montague has one of the lowest tax rates in the State of New Jersey. Our Community: Highpoint Country Club at Holiday Lake is located in Montague, New Jersey. Its development began in the 1960’s on an 1100 acre tract of land. Today, Highpoint Country Club is a year round private community consisting of Homes and Condominiums. Highpoint Country Club in the early days of development , was known as the “go to” place for Country living, Recreation, Spring and Summer activities. There were very few if any year round residents. The development was advertised in very famous and well read magazines of the 60’s. The Summer Residents consisted of Attorneys, Physicians, and famous people. One of our famous residents was Paul Zindel, a famous play-write and Author of many books. Paul Zindel received a Pulitzer Prize for Drama, for his play “The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds.” Some of his Books include The Pigman, The Doomstone, and Reef of Death, just to name a few. Highpoint Country Club at Holiday Lake is a great place to live and play.
