Today is a tough day. Waves of emotion, and a few tears since early this morning. Truthfully, some watery eyes while I’m writing this post. The Grand Slam is sold. She’s a great boat, and always got us home safe in conditions that put many a knot in my stomach.

Elena I drove up in October 2006 to have her built in Steuben Maine by Terry Jason. By August 2007 I was running charter trips in Montauk. The Grand Slam became special for many of my friends, family, and charter customers. Lots of work went into getting her just right, but it was worth it. She made some bank over the years and provided lots of fun and enjoyment for many.

Thanks to all who helped me run her, and thanks to all who fished with me. It was my pleasure to have you aboard.

Grand Slam…Treat the new owner well. You’ll be missed by me and many others too. 💔

The description is a screen shot. Let me elaborate on speed and gph. Cruise, as per CAT is 2400 rpm. At that she’ll run 17-20 knots. My whole career I’ve run her at a sweet spot, when conditions allow , at 2000-2100 rpm, that’s where the lower speed 10- 14 knots comes from. I average 3.5 gallons an hour when fishing inshore at the Point. A half day trip around the Lighthouse area burns 12-gallons. Go to Block you can bump it to 20 gallons. Go to Frisbees or Cartwright 15-gallons. That’s a little steaming, a little fishing, and a little idle or maybe trolling.

Ok please excuse the long post. Well, the news is out, the Grand Slam is for sale. So, I had to start showing her sometime, and that time is now. That being said, we’re still fishing and booking for now. I have no idea how long it will take to sell. However, I simply could not wait for the end of the season to put the boat up for sale, that would probably mean no sale until next spring. Not a road I’m seeking to go down. I’ll try to work out with any potential buyer for getting trips that I have on the books in for this season.
I hope all realize this was a tough decision for me. I’ve hemmed and hawed over it for a few years. One of the final straws has to do with the current, and probably future fishing regulations that we are all dealing with. Simply put, the regs are not conducive for running a charter fishing business…at least, not for me.
In addition, I don’t live in Montauk, so I deal with the same traffic to Montauk that all of you do, and the drive gets worse, every year. This traffic issue is a trying, frustrating experience for all.
New York is also not what it once was. Expenses just to exist here have also become an issue. So, it looks like a move to Florida is in the works for me and my wonderful wife Elena, and my 3- labs aka my “kids.”
Thanks to all the great mates that have helped me out, and without whom there would have been no Grand Slam Charters. Especially: Wayne, Jim, Derek, Danny, and present full timer Charlie.
My heartfelt gratitude goes out to all who have booked trips with me over the years. Many of you have become friends, and I will miss seeing you and spending time with you on the Grand Slam.
Best Regards, Capt. Tom.

Grand Slam Charters. Nice family trip yesterday for John, Jamie, Matt, Ella, Grace and Lauren. It was challenging getting passed all the blues and scup on jigs, but by the end of the trip we ended with a bunch of stripers over the slot, a few shorts, and some just rights for the grill.
