Did you know many of the humpbacks we see in Monterey Bay have names? Humpback flukes are used to identify them much like our own fingerprints. Does anyone know the whale in pic 4, missing part of its fluke?

✅️Checkmarks is believed to be a female 1st sighted in 2008. She was entangled in fishing gear in 2014 but managed to escape from the entaglement 🙌

✅️Condor was nicknamed this because the tail fluke resembles the wings of a CA Conder.

✅️ Rip curl, aka Blinker, got her name from the wave shape on her left pectoral fin.

You can follow your favorite whale or even name a whale at . How cool is that?

Thank you to Jeff for identifying & sharing your shots of these magnificent humpback sightings with us!

This Sealion wants to eat too! It's a battle for the anchovies! Of course, the humpbacks have an advantage ☺️ but the sealions are happy with the leftovers!

Cool shot from Mark Daoud on our afternoon trip yesterday. Multiple groups of humpback whales were lunge-feeding, and the sealions being the opportunistic feeders they are were right up in their grill, so to speak 😂

Some of the beautiful jellyfish 🪼 we see in Monterey Bay. Jellyfish play a very important role in the world's oceans and are fascinating little creatures.

Our oceans are full of amazing biodiversity, with an estimated 700,000 to 1 million species living in it. That's incredible! Thanks to Mark Daoud for getting these magnificent shots!

Just wanted to share some more photos our photographer captured of the gorgeous orcas we have been seeing recently 🤍

Many of you may have heard about the juvenile orca that beached itself on Carmel River State Beach. We are all so sad about the news. Although attempts were made to rescue the baby orca, it sadly died while being transported to the Long Marine Lab at UC Sants Cruz 😥

At this time, there is no further information on what happened or which pod the beautiful baby orca belonged to. Huge thank you to the Marine Mammal Center for their work in trying to save this precious baby. It's completely heartbreaking 💔 We love the orcas so much!

We have had some fog rolling in lately on a few of our trips but photographer was able to capture this close up of a humpback lunge feeding!

Check out the size of that tongue 😛 A humpbacks tongue is about the size of a Volkswagen bug 😯 the baleen is used to filter feed their food. To do this they open their mouths, take in large amounts of water, then they will push the water out & the fish are filtered by the baleen as food.

So cool 😎

Oh my goodness, look how tiny & cute this little sealion looks next to this massive humpback 🤗

Humpbacks can weigh up to 80,000 lbs. This photo shows just how massive humpback whales are!

It's a good thing that humpbacks are so friendly to all the other mammals & seabirds 💙

Amazing lunge-feeding action captured by our photographer
