THROW BACK MONTEREY, General Jose Castro's headquarters.

Castro was the Commandante of the Mexican army forces in northern Mexican California.
Built in 1846, one side of the building faced the main town plaza. The wall, with wide admission gates, screened the bull and bear ring where wagering events were held.
