I just finished a conference call with clients who are going to Rome this summer. Having recently been, I was able to advise my clients on the types of tours that were best suited for their needs, and accurate timing for different activities, such as the length of time needed to visit the Colosseum.

It's time for Travel Tip Tuesday from Getaways By Liz.

Check the ingredients in your sunscreen. Avoid those which contain oxybenzone or octinoxate, two of the more harmful chemicals for reefs found in sunscreens. In fact, more and more Caribbean destinations, as well as Key West and Hawaii, are requiring visitors to use reef friendly sunscreen in order to protect their ecosystems.

It's time for Travel Tip Tuesday from Getaways By Liz.

In case you've been living under a rock lately, the price of gas is sky high. On average in the US, gas is $5 a gallon. The airline industry is also impacted by the surging cost of fuel. In return, the cost of airfare is at an all time high, and there is no end in sight.

So if you absolutely need to book airfare for travel within the next few months, do it as soon as possible before the cost goes up even more.

Not traveling until winter or 2023? Then it might be worth waiting to see if airfare decreases.

It's time for Travel Tip Tuesday from Getaways By Liz.

Should you book the refundable or nonrefundable hotel rate? This is my rule of thumb

Book the nonrefundable rate if:
-you are traveling in the next 30-60 days
- you want a slightly lower rate
- you know 100% you are traveling

Book the refundable rate if:
- your trip is more than 6 months away
- you have small children or parents with medical conditions
- you are not 100% sure you are traveling at that time
- you are traveling during winter in the north (snowstorms may change your plans)

Recently, I had a prospective client reach out to me to price out a 3 day getaway to Miami. After sending my initial quotes, the client responded that they had found cheaper air on a generic travel search engine. I am always willing to attempt to price match, so I asked for a screenshot of the cheaper air option.

Remember, the client only has 3 days for travel!
Can you figure out why either of these "cheaper" options would not be the best for this trip?

Happy cruise day! Today marks the "official" start of the 2022 Alaska cruise season.

While there are several cruise lines that visit Alaska, Princess Cruises is consistently voted the best. And as a Princess Commodore travel advisor, I have extensive knowledge of their itineraries, cruisetours, and ports of call, earning the bragging rights as an Alaska Specialist.
