Moose Pass family moves into a garage, starts small tourism business focused on sharing their love of small town Alaska and the natural world that surrounds them.

Thank you to the community of Moose Pass for making this story possible!

As you may have seen in the Moose Pass Messenger, all attending members of the Moose Pass Sportsmen's Club unanimously voted 'Yay' to a motion passed to allow Moose Pass Adventures to initiate a land use agreement for the portion of land just south of the Moose Pass Volunteer Fire Department.

We can't tell you how nourishing to our souls it was to hear no 'Nays' and all those 'Yays' along with so many other comments of support from our community members for this.

Hello Winter! Spoiler Alert: We decided to open up some winter yurt dates today! The white stuff came in fast and deep already and we couldn't be happier. It was pretty amazing to see the community of Moose Pass come together to help each other and make sure everyone had what they needed during such a winter blast! Speaking of local love...Wow. The gratitude shared for our first summer season operating 'The Nellie', our yurt on Grant Lake, was overwhelmingly positive and rewarding.
We had a lot of requests as to whether we'd be open for winter. The answer is YES! With a few days of skating under our belt and grooming already underway on neighboring trails, we're just getting geared up for a great winter here in Moose Pass.
We thought it might be nice to get these dates open now, in case you're hanging with friends or family over Thanksgiving, thinking about making plans for the winter. Link to book in comments below.

Thank you to our awesome neighbors, Brad and Diane at Scenic Mountain Air, for letting us join their ”date” on Tuesday. They invited us to hop in the back of their floatplane and took us up to check out the fall colors from the air. It was awesome getting to see the lakes we’ve been kayaking on all summer from a different perspective. What a great end of season adventure. 🧡💛 Thank you for letting us tag along!

Today marks the official fist day of fall, and we are soaking it in with gorgeous weather and 12 hours 15 minutes of daylight. Each day over the next month, we’ll say goodbye to over 5 minutes of light. Every. Single. Day. But you know what? We’re here for it. 🍁 But for now, we’re leading one more Trail Lake Kayak Tour at 4:30pm today, where we’ll enjoy the gorgeous views and stunning autumn colors.

The fireweed is blooming, the wind has calmed and there's a couple of nights left available for bookings at our yurt, 'The Nellie' up on Grant Lake. One of our favorite things about running a small, family-owned business is, well, involving the whole family. This week, our little co-guide helped her dad set up Alpacka packrafts for our Hike In, Packraft Out guided kayak adventure. Before we know it, she’ll be the one guiding others on packrafting adventures, teaching about backcountry travel & sharing the rich history of this region of Alaska.

We are happy to support Kenai Mountains-Turnagain Arm National Heritage Area and all that they do for our little community. Their trail challenge is a great reason to get out and explore while also supporting an amazing organization!

We’re so happy to have spent the last two days guiding around 60 scouts and their families on our Trail Lake tour here in Moose Pass! Thanks for visiting Boy Scouts of America Troop 41 AZ! We had a blast on every tour and are just so impressed with how these young scouts worked together, laughed together and did such a great job of listening and interacting with our guides. Thank you so much for visiting Moose Pass, Alaska!

Feeling special this Independence Day(s). We celebrated the 4th of July with a beautiful early morning paddle on Trail Lake, followed it up with a hike up to Grant Lake, then an Overnight Yurt Adventure with an awesome couple for their anniversary! We may not have seen any fireworks, but the giant waterfalls, porcupine sighting and campfire BBQ made up for it... and then some!

You can pretty much set your clock in Moose Pass to the sound of the Alaska Railroad as the train rumbles by twice daily. We love getting out on our kayaks and giving a friendly wave as the train passes by glacial Trail Lake.

Last Minute Yurt Opening on July 9th. The yurt is sold out in July but we have decided to open one of our previously blocked off ‘work days’ to the public due to a schedule change. However, there are no rental kayaks available for this date, (even if the rez system says there are), you must have your own transport to cross Trail Lake to access the trailhead. Feel free to share this and call us with any questions or go to www.moosepassyurts.com for reservations. *Note: This is a self supported, public use style yurt stay. A kayak or canoe is REQUIRED to access the trail to the yurt and you must be competent in the backcountry of Alaska.

Wow! Our first Guided Overnight Yurt Adventure is in the books. What a great trip! We ate well, kayaked a lot and they even saw a momma black bear with two cubs while they were out kayaking. You know it was an awesome trip when I asked if they had any suggestions and they said, “Offer an option to extend this tour!” ❤️🚣‍♀️🥾🏔️

Just out searching for a bit of blue sky! Alaska sure has been a bit moody so far this summer, but even with the chilly breeze, we’ve been enjoying the amazing views here in Moose Pass. Hopefully with the solstice just around the corner, it’ll start feeling a bit more like summer. ☀️

A heartfelt thank you to our amazing friends and community!

We are beyond grateful for the incredible support we've received as we gear up for unforgettable summer adventures here in Moose Pass. From lending a helping hand to carrying kayaks and supplies to our remote camp, to those who dedicated their time to helping us set up the yurt, your kindness and camaraderie have touched our hearts. Thank you so much for helping our dream of a backcountry camp on Grant Lake become a reality.

To each and everyone one of you who have contributed to this project, we cannot thank you enough.

Now that the snow is gone, we just have a couple of more projects to complete at the yurt before it's ready for summer adventures.

Summer is rolling in, and so is the Alaska Railroad!

The Alaska Railroad is kicking off its summer route from Anchorage to Seward. This means that we'll have the opportunity to see this iconic train twice daily in Moose Pass. Waving at the train while kayaking on Trail Lake is one of our favorite Moose Pass experiences.

The journey is just as important as the destination, and we love the experience of getting over to Grant Lake from Moose Pass. The trailhead we use is only accessible by boat in the summer, so we start off with a paddle from Moose Pass before we hit the trail that leads us over to this gorgeous, glacial lake. More pictures of our backcountry yurt overlooking this lake to come!

Check out the current conditions here in Moose Pass. We have been keeping an eye on lake conditions; it's a tough job, but someone has to do it. :)

Several would-be adventurers called earlier this month to see if we can take them on a kayak adventure on glacial Trail Lake. Our answer -- not yet, but soon! The sun is out, and the ice on the lake is melting!

We crawled out of our winter dens for the first social event of the season; the annual Wilderness First Responder training with Wilderness Medical Associates, Sunny Cove Kayaking-Seward, Alaska and Kayak Adventures Worldwide. We took the WFR in 2021 and volunteered as patients the last two springs. It's a great way to refresh our medical training knowledge each year before we head back in next spring for our official recerts. What a great bunch!

We are so, very excited to kick off the summer season so that we can get out and experience the breathtaking views of Trail Lake and the surrounding mountains. Although the lake is still frozen, IT IS STARTING TO THAW, and it won't be long until we can get out and explore its glacial fed waters by kayak. Think warm, summer thoughts!

We’ve had several inquiries from would-be guests asking how they might get to our put-in in Moose Pass from Anchorage or Seward if they don’t have a car. Red Eye Rides, LLC posted their summer schedule today! This could be a great option and could work really well with our departure & return times! Our full day hike & kayak tour, packraft intro or even our 3 hour tour could work out well. Even better, come for an overnight at our new backcountry yurt up on Grant Lake! Leave the driving to Red Eye Rides and we’ll take care of all the gear and logistics for an epic adventure in the heart of Alaska’s Chugach Mountains!
