Fall is in the air. North winds a blowin’ and the big Spanish are chewin’. Casting Precious Metals Lures 3/4 oz Blitz jigs under the birds in the Beaufort Inlet this morning around 9am. There were a bunch of 2 lb bluefish mixed in as well.

Great day on the big pond on my brother’s boat, Michael John DeLuzio , and with my son Andrew DeLuzio. Kings, beeliners, chocolate chip porgies, AJ’s, grunts and these weird orange colored flounders kept us pretty busy today.

I already had the boat in the water when my Crystal Coast Ecotours crew called to cancel because of today’s wind forecast. So I had a little time for some solo fishing. I threw a castnet on a huge bait ball in the inlet and then stopped by the Coast Guard station as the tide began to fall. It didn’t take long before the drag went screaming on a live menhaden. Somehow I was able to get this feisty blue fish in the net after a 10 minute battle. It measured 30”. I didn’t take time to weigh it as I wanted to release it quickly after a few photos. Any guess on the weight?

Landed a few for the CRISCO DISCO!
We got the boat nice and dirty today fishing with my dad and the famous Jess Hawkins. The Cape Lookout rock jetty was dead early so we moved out to another location where the bite finally picked up. We never got into the speckled trout we were looking for but these tasty black drum and gray trout sure did make up for it. Gotta go get my fryin’ pan! Can you hear the sizzle?

What a day! A two-boat tour with for this repeat party of 8 was full of fun! Hanging out at Shark Island for most of the day provided numerous memory making moments, from shelling to snorkeling to fishing. A quick stop at the Cape Lookout lighthouse was the icing on the cake.

Scratched out a few fish for dinner with this repeat crew from the Raleigh area. Grey trout, trigger fish and ring tail porgies made it to the cooler. The cobia and several nice flounder were released.
