UPDATES on the BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY:

As of October 15, the parkway between mile post 0 at Shenandoah National Park and mile post 200.1 is open to the public.

However, the Blue Ridge Parkway between mile post 200.1 (Sunbelt Rd.) in Virginia, and mile post 469 at Great Smoky Mountains National Park near Cherokee, NC remains closed as emergency stabilization efforts and damage assessments continue in the wake of significant, and in some areas catastrophic, damage from Hurricane Helene.

LONG POST ALERT! If you had told me last year when we bought our home in Asheville that we'd be facing the aftermath of a hurricane, I would have never believed you. Yet here we are, witnessing unimaginable destruction from Tropical Storm Helene. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who reached out to check on us. Both of our homes are thankfully safe! Our North GA house has no damage, and the area is still ready to welcome guests. The WNC house is accessible, but Asheville itself is not.
We had a guest who stayed through the storm in WNC, and they were able to leave Sunday morning once the entrance to the neighborhood was cleared. There is currently no internet, but special Starlink connections have been set up to help people find lost loved ones and assist with recovery efforts. Many areas are still without power, but we are fortunate to have electricity. Ours went out on Friday night but was restored by Sunday.
The damage is heartbreaking, and many are still stranded or in need of assistance. We have reached out to our team and they are all safe and accounted for. This beautiful city and its resilient people need our help more than ever. We are sharing the resources we know of to provide support and relief to those affected:
Mercy Chefs - a non-profit that has provided millions of meals to those facing disaster and hardship - is is already on the ground and serving hot meals to victims, volunteers, and first responders. I fully expect we will serve TENS OF THOUSANDS OF MEALS in the coming days.
