Will it make politicians tell the truth? Will it help you get promoted at work? The answer to both of those questions is “no”. So what is this “good” that these candles do? It is this; the profits from each candle sale will go to help the people of Haiti. This past July 2011, I was able to participate in my first Medical Mission trip to Haiti through my church, El Bethel Baptist Church. We paid fo
r our own plane tickets and raised money to purchase the medicines we used while we were in Haiti. In five days we treated more than 1,700 people. This was mostly children and women. We will be going back in July 2012 and we need to raise more money. So I decided to sell these hand poured candles that I make in my basement. In 1977, I made my first candles when I was 16 years old. My girlfriend and I melted wax, used broken Crayola Crayons to color them, Charlie perfume and Jovan Musk to scent them and used Barbars pint milk containers as molds. I even put part of a honeysuckle vine in one of them. I didn’t make another candle until January 2009. I was given a votive candle making kit for Christmas. I poured my first candle from that kit on January 2, 2009. I then bought several different molds, scents, dyes and books with excellent directions. I have been pouring candles since that time. My wife and daughter were planning a Medical Mission trip to Haiti in the summer of 2009 and I needed to raise some money for them. Friends and family commented how good the candles were and that for donations for the trip I should give people candles. I did just that and started buying more molds over the next several months. Along with other fund raisers and donations, the Medical Mission trip was successful. All of the candles are hand poured in my basement. If I don’t like how a candle turns out, I re-melt it and start again. This is my first time at starting a part-time business. I am a full time Chaplain at a state correctional facility in North Carolina. I work with young men ages 18 – 25 years of age. All of them are felons. I really enjoy making candles, it is a great stress reliever for me. My wife and daughter help me some but it is mainly me in the basement. I hope you will give us a try. My wife, daughter and I, are preparing to go to Haiti again in February 2012. Your purchase of my candles will help us raise money for medicines and travel expenses. Thanks for stopping by and looking around. Please remember all of our candles are hand poured and made with high quality wax, dyes and scents. I don’t keep a high inventory because I want the candles to be fresh. If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me and I will answer you promptly. Thanks again for stopping. Turbeville
