Started in the Mall, now Im HERE!
FUN-FACT, In 2007, I (Kam) started my first job straight out of high school in SOUTH LAKE MALL in Morrow, Ga! I worked at Cinnabon ( Upstairs next to the then Candy Store , JC Penny’s and Kids Foot Locker) FAST FORWARD 10 YEARS LATER and this is the same mall, directly down the street from MY FIRST EVER STORE FRONT, known to the world as “Twisted Dips” Art Studio! This picture was taken by one of my college friends Ashley SongByrd who was in the mall doing a little Christmas shopping and saw me WORKING! (LOL) Its still one of my favorite pics to look back and reminisce on.
Never in a million years would I know how much that mall was going to have an impact on my life! I started there while I was in college. Upon moving back home to be closer to Atlanta and family, I moved on to Quik Trip Kitchens in Ellenwood. It would be then where I met great people and upon one of those people was Joy. She was the first person I ever saw in physical real life make an actual fondant cake, because at that time, the only thing close to that was Charm City Cakes and that was Duff on TV. Fast forward a few months later where I was presented a bet to make an extravagant cake and an opportunity presented itself, I made my first ever Custom Cake ( Playstation Controller linked to an Atari controller) From that point on, Kake By Design was birthed! Over the years, I ended up doing more and more cakes . I have even been given the opportunity to make cakes for celebrities such as 2 Chainz, Rick Ross, Young Dolph, and also Political Leaders and Representatives for the communities we cherish.
While I will always love making cakes, I knew something was missing. I initially got into cakes because of my love of art. That was one of the things that set my cakes apart from others. Upon taking my mother to a similar venue, it was there that she helped my discover what I really wanted to do, which was create ART! I enjoyed the experience with my mom, however, the drive was a little out of my way. When I went home and looked around, unbeknownst to myself, I had already had an art gallery in my home; I just never shared much with the world. I started cakes in 2011, and many people expected me to have a small bakery, but when I found the location in the same area as the mall, I KNEW it was it! AN ART STUDIO, PERFECT for the culture of the Southside.
Morrow has always been a place for me of business, in fact it was my Pick Up location for all my custom cake orders for the last several years. While some may frown upon us because they know not the BEAUTY hidden within our community, I am happy and proud to say I OWN TWISTED DIPS ART STUDIO, on the SOUTHSIDE IN MORROW, GA! Never in a million years could I have seen this coming but here it is! An Art Studio where ART IS YOUR WAY! THERE ARE NO MISTAKES HERE!!!!
