I’m really glad that we made so many soil investments in blueberries. Better than money in the bank in my opinion.
Research shows eating a handful of blueberries a day can make you smarter and a little healthier, too.
Beginning next year, you won't be able to travel domestically with your state issued driver's license or ID card. Here's what you'll need instead.
Wildflowers are hitting their peak in the Paradise subalpine meadows and moving just past peak at Sunrise. “Peak” season is when the greatest variety and number of wildflowers are blooming, but even after the peak many late season wildflowers will continue to bloom throughout August and even into September. Cascade asters (Eucephallus ledophyllus) are one wildflower in full swing, with large displays blooming at Sunrise and Paradise (pictured). Other late season wildflowers to look for are fireweed and goldenrod. What wildflowers are you observing in the park?
Remember to always stay on trails to avoid trampling the wildflowers! There are many options for that perfect mountain + wildflower photo from the trail. Help ensure wildflowers thrive so that you can enjoy them the next time you visit!

You don’t have to go on a long hike to enjoy subalpine wildflowers at Mount Rainier! Numerous flowers can be found blooming along roads and sidewalks in areas like Paradise and Sunrise. This patch of scarlet paintbrush (Castilleja miniata) was found right next to the Paradise lower parking lot. While there are several species of red paintbrush in the park, scarlet paintbrush can be distinguished by its lance-shaped leaves while other red paintbrush have lobed leaves. I am enjoying every minute of summer at Adytum Sanctuary this year. We are definitely seeing the fruit of all of our hard labor. Up bright and early picking blueberries and then moving into the Vineyard, there’s a lot of work, but there’s so much joy and satisfaction here.
I visit this garden at least once a day and in the summer spray the coastal redwoods with water against the heat of the day. It’s a magical place full of bird song and peace.
As many of you know, we helped a friend last year, taking two kittens that were found unexpectedly with their mother in their barn. I could not get on any list anywhere to get the kitten spayed in time so the result from the original rescue was seven kittens from a very young mother herself… the lack of Spay-vets is very sad/dire!!!! It’s time to find homes for some of this incredible group born June 19. They are all extremely loving and fun! They are already integrated and well trained by their mother in hunting and being indoor and outdoor cats. However, I will only release the kittens if they are largely indoors and spayed. They were raised on fancy feast and harp music, so I’m sure you can see where I’m going with this. No barn cats for these kittens.
Springtime? Hold the hope that we can finally take our coat off one of these days… Still don’t you think it’s gorgeous at AdytumSanctuary this early Spring morning?
A couple of traveling physical therapists are inquiring about the Orion Suite during off-season. This lovely suite overlooks Mayfield Lake, the Tilton and Cowlitz rivers, our vineyard, and has a lovely courtyard and covered pergola to relax in and watch the sunset. We moved additional bookcases in recently to showcase our aviation library. Outside the window, hundreds of birds come every spring to nest here and enjoy the black oil sunflower seeds. It’s truly a paradise of rest and relaxation and beauty.
