📣 Want to view the boat parade from shore? Here's some tips:
👉 Like most events, it’s good to come early. Find a comfortable spot in Mount Dora along the shoreline of Lake Dora, sit tight and relax.
👉 The Boat Parade travels at its own safe pace so depending on your location, it may or may not get to you at exactly 6:30 pm 🥰
👉 Tour boats and Private boaters with their boats decorated come along the shoreline so unless you see Our boat with a Big Green Alligator on the side and a string of boats behind it (the boat parade) you may be seeing private boaters or tour boats.

For 51 years the City of Mount Dora has placed a 1970s lighted Christmas decoration on a utility pole on Clayton Street for Melanie Mae Wise.

Melanie Mae, who suffered from epilepsy as a child, loved to drive around town with her parents Fred and June Wise to look at Christmas lights. When she was no longer able to, Utilities Director Art Womble hung a decoration outside the Wise home for her to enjoy.

Even though Melanie died in 1977, the city has honored this heartfelt tradition of hanging the decoration for 47 more years. When a city preserves historic places and traditions it fosters a sense of community and its shared stories. It creates a connection between the past and the present, and captures the spirit of the people who have made Mount Dora “Someplace Special” throughout its history. We salute the city for continuing this special and heartfelt tradition during the holiday season. It’s one that touches the heart of all who hear this story.
