Add a trip to Bird Island on your next DreamChaser vacation! Did you know that our own Bird Island was recently designated an IBA (Important Bird Area) by the Audubon Society? Bird Island is a roosting site for an estimated 800-50,000 Purple Martins in July and August and is a staging area for the birds as they feast and fatten up on insects before flying to South America. Wow! Many of you already know that local weather station big bunch an often see a cloud on radar every morning at sunrise caused by birds leaving Bird Island on Lake Ouachita. Thousands of purple martins among other birds roost on the island overnight and take off as the sun comes up. Lake Ouachita State Park gives evening tours out to the island if you want to see it!
