Brunner & Associates LLC - Pipe Organ Builders, formerly R. Brunner & Co., was established in 1981 by Raymond J. Our employees have over 100 years of organ building experience. We are a full service shop which includes custom wood milling used for making our own consoles, chests and cases, wood finishing, pipe making, voicing, tuning and service for all types of pipe organs including tracker actio

n, tubular, electro-pneumatic and direct electric actions. Our mission is simple: To promote the pipe organ and the art of organ building and to achieve the best possible experience from every organ under our care. We do this by:

• Custom design, building and voicing the organ to match its surroundings and musical needs. It is often said that the "room" is the most important stop on the organ.

• Rebuilding with respect to the authenticity of the original builder's tonal design and specification.

• Accurate restoration of historical instruments using materials and practices appropriate for the style and period.

• Enhancing reliability and playability by combining state-of-the-art electronic control systems while maintaining appropriate tonal design.

• Putting craftsmanship ahead of business economics. We thank you for taking time to browse our page. Many thanks to our customers for allowing us to care for their instruments and we appreciate the opportunity to participate in your next organ project.

A bit ago we hosted the Friends of the Erben Organ at our shop. A journalist from The New Yorker surreptitiously joined them.
This is the result.

Since the Civil War, the Erben organ has imbued St. Patrick’s Basilica with “a tinge of sadness.”

The progress on the new/old Tannenberg keyboard is also nearing completion.
The key backfalls are levers that reverse the motion of the tails of the keyboard so they can pull downward and not push upward.

The second ongoing process, that of fabricating new trackers into the Tannenberg action. Our associate Tyler Herr has been indefatigable in carrying out this important task under arduous summer conditions. These lightweight wooden sticks are pulled upon by other mechanical action parts, and connect the key movement to the note valves inside the chests to direct air to the correct pipes.
The pipe organ is all about control over air. Making sure it goes where it’s supposed to, when it’s supposed to, and how it’s supposed to.😉

Our 1804 Tannenberg restoration has begun some final processes, like creating a replica Trumpet stop from scratch in-house! Here our creatively ingenious pipe maker is turning a round end on a square tapered wooden resonator for the lowest notes of this stop. And then pouring lead ingots to be machined into the shallot covers.
