What a busy week!

A select few Cadets and Cadre had the opportunity to organize and run the FLRC lanes for the CMU Women's Basketball Team this morning. It was a fun way for them to build team morale by working together to solve their task at hand. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to host and do this with you.

Yesterday's lab the MS1s - MS3s had the chance to practice their Land Navigation skills at Deerfield Nature Park! It went well, and at the end of Lab MAJ Andrychowski was recognized as an amazing Instructor by fellow Cadets and Richard Rothaus, the Dean of College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.

Esteemed Alumni of the Chippewa Battalion,
I am taking this opportunity to address everyone to thank you for your continued support for this program and provide you a quick update on this past year with the Chippewa Battalion.
We have had an incredibly productive year. In a short time after returning from the summer the cadet leadership put together and executed our Fall training exercise in Fort Custer and participated in the CMU Flag Officer Symposium (SEP ’23). At both universities we supported multiple sporting events and parades with color guard and cannon support, as well as multiple recruiting events. We came together as a team and executed the Army Ten-Miler in Arlington, V.A. (OCT’23), the Ranger Challenge event (OCT’23) and Ball Run with Western Michigan (NOV’23). We came together for Branch Night (NOV’23) and Dining In at the Pohlcat (DEC ’23). We told our story through newsletters, social media, and commissioning ceremonies. We kept the history and memories alive of those who fought before us with our partnership with the Zekelman Holocaust Center (JAN ’24), Nolde Lecture with “Chappy” Justin Roberts and the “No Slack BNs” story “No Greater Love” docuseries (JAN’24), and then conducted our Staff Ride to Normandy France (MAR’24). Throughout all this we stayed focused on training the underclassmen in preparation for CST with our Labs, CTEs and CDT leadership, planned and executed the JLDX at Fort Custer (MAR’24) with Michigan State, and our Combined Super lab at Rodgers Heights (APR’24). The last event together was the Military Ball honoring our BN’s history and all our accomplishments at Eagles Post 2535 in Big Rapids. Overall, in total we will commission 18 new 2LTs for mission set ‘24. Our national OML standing included 5 distinguished military graduates to include CDT Alexandra Kachur (FSU) who was #10 national overall cadet in the nation and #1 in ROTC 7th BDE.
As many of you are aware and have experienced before, the Army is restructuring to include TRADOC. U.S. Army Cadet Command will now fall under US Army Recruiting Command to streamline and enhance recruiting efforts for both officer and enlisted. This has also resulted in restructuring of ROTC programs. 18 host programs throughout the nation have consolidated with other host programs and new host programs will begin to open in the West and South continental US. Central Michigan is not part of the consolidation, however, to note the CMU host contract is up for renewal and will expire in 2029. Reference Army times article below: https://www.armytimes.com/news/your-army/2024/03/26/army-rotc-shifting-its-footprint-to-the-south-and-southwest/
Focused Efforts. Even though my time here will be completed in August 2026, our efforts are to ensure the CDTs today and future 2LTs are best equipped, able to train, and be ready to support and lead in our nation’s future conflicts. We will be working with both CMU and FSU to improve our current training areas and capabilities. We recently renewed 5-year extension status and cross-town agreements with Ferris State, Alma College, and Northwood University to match the current Host program contract with Central Michigan. Our next efforts are to work with both Central Michigan and Ferris State in the development and emplacement of an obstacle course within our training area. If approved and built, not only will it improve CDTs physical fitness, it will also serve to entice others to join the program. This will also serve as a means for other departments in the university to utilize to promote teamwork camaraderie among students, faculty, and staff. We are also looking toward additional ways to promote this ROTC program statewide, utilizing the universities recruiting efforts and your support to spread our story.
Thank you for your continued support to our Cadets and our Program as a whole. Be on the Lookout for our semester newsletter.

On April 6, The Chippewa Battalion executed and completed our combined lab and Culminating Training Event at Rodgers Heights training area in Big Rapids, MI. This event was planned and facilitated by our MSIV cohort. First half day of training involved Warrior skills lanes to include a weapons lane, Radio and reports lane, patrolling and cammo lane, Call for Fire Lane, Hand grenades simulation lane, medical lane, and CBERN lane. Second half of the day involved squad and platoon maneuvering scenarios. The intent of training was to prepare the MSIII cohort for their upcoming Cadet summer training evaluations. For the MSI and MSII cohorts, provide an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills and prepare them for leadership roles for the upcoming Fall semester. For the MSIV cohort, a last opportunity to hone their leadership skills prior to Commissiong and move on to BOLC and their future units.

We are going into Day 4 of our Normandy Staff Ride. We’ve been able to visit:
- Memorial de Caen
- Utah Beach
-Saint Mere-Eglese
-Pointe Du Hoc
-Omaha Beach
-Normandy American Cemetery
- Gold Beach
Visiting these places has allowed our cadets to put into perspective the impact D-Day, and WWII as a whole, had on the world. Getting to learn about these battles and understand the historical significance can help us apply these leadership qualities to our own lives. Check out our Flickr to follow along with our trip (link in bio).
