We’re excited to share the progress photos of our soon-to-be newest addition, a single-room glamping pod with a full bathroom. This cozy cabin will feature a mini fridge, cooktop, microwave, and all the comforts you need for a relaxing stay. For years, the Grayson Highlands General Store and Inn has stood as a welcoming landmark for hikers, travelers, and locals alike. Nestled along the banks of Big Wilson Creek, this beloved stop has served as a place of rest and connection for all passing through on their way to the Grayson Highlands. Owned by Paula and Jeff, two of the kindest, most generous people you could meet, it has become more than just a store—it’s a community hub.

On Friday, September 27th, Hurricane Helene swept through western Virginia, leaving devastation in its wake. Big Wilson Creek flooded, overwhelming the bridge on US-58 and pouring onto the highway, eventually forcing its way through the doors of the general store. The damage has been extensive, and as you can imagine, the costs of rebuilding are immense.

Despite the hardship, Paula and Jeff are committed to staying and restoring their store, determined to continue serving the community they love. But they can’t do it alone.

We’re asking for your help to support Paula and Jeff as they work to rebuild the Grayson Highlands General Store and Inn. Every contribution, big or small, will make a difference in helping them cover the reconstruction costs and get back on their feet.

Thank you everyone for your support during these difficult times, we were lucky to not be impacted as much as many in the area. It's heartwarming to see everyone in the community come together to help and support one another. The creek rose over its banks on the back of the property, as well as the smaller Creek in the front. The smaller Creek in the front, ran across the highway and took out portions of our driveway. We also had a small landslide on the landing next to The Overlook cabin, that blocked access to the lot above.

We have been able to rebuild the driveway and clear the landslide, and we had power restored yesterday afternoon. We still have no internet but we hear it will be coming back online soon.

The roads in the area took a lot of damage, if you're visiting from North and South you probably will not have much issue, coming from the West toward Damascus you may have a difficult time until the road work is complete.

The park is tentatively scheduled to re open on the 14th, they've cleared the landslide and the park is accessible from the cabins.

It was a busy week last week racing to get everything done before guests arrived, but we ve got a lot done. We've got utilities ran to the upper lot for future plans, the fences are looking good with a splash of paint, new kitchen backsplash at the Wild Horse Cabin, and finished staining the overlook skirt boards. There's always something something going on here at Highland Hideaways 😄

We had some crazy storms over Memorial day weekend. Shout out to Appalachian Power and GigaBeam Networks for working around the clock to get services restored. We had a lot of washout and are in the process of repairing the driveway, but overall we made it through fairly unscathed. Great time to visit, with all the rain the waterfalls up the creek are beautiful.
